"Went generally well. Steve in his father did a nice job with dedicated line for above range microwave, as well as installing the wall cabinet and microwave. Also they were friendly and helpful on some patching tips and info of outlet boxes. I did contact the owner a few weeks later as the internal venting fan was not in the right position to be venting ainternally above microwave. He quickly sent tow men out at no charge to remedy. Holes made for fan, dedicated line, and for bathroom fan and switch were "tight" and easy to repair for painting. Only shortcoming to work was the venting for upstairs bathroom fan into attic. Service person just ran venting pipe over to area in attic where proper venting was not workable---fascia board and roof area with half-moon gutter on outside. This will have to be redone for proper venting. In all honesty, this homeowner's materials and plans were unrealistic-- given the small bathroom fan and the initial length of the long run of venting pipe---25ft to the outside attic vent in the middle of my attic."

"It went very well. I called to ask for an estimate to install a chandelier in my vaulted ceiling where there was no existing box. They came out the same day. Alex had everything he needed on the truck and was able to do the job the same day. He did a great job, and I could not be more pleased. He worked to make as few holes in the wall/ceiling as necessary, and he did great. Got the line fished through the ceiling to a new switch he installed. The chandelier looks great, and Alex was great to work with."

"Installation went well. They were patient with me as I explained exactly what it was I needed. After the installation, the fan vibrated very loudly into my bedroom. I called to have this fixed, and the work was done in a few days with no additional charge. The fan has been working well."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

The most efficient ceiling fan height is 8 to 9 feet from the floor to the fan blades. For ceilings higher than 9 feet, a downrod can be used to lower the fan to the optimal height. This positioning ensures adequate air circulation and maximizes the cooling effect. Remember, fans should be installed at least 7 feet above the floor for safety.

Though possible, installing a ceiling fan yourself requires electrical knowledge and confidence working with home wiring. Following the manufacturer's instructions carefully and observing safety precautions are crucial components of a DIY installation.

When choosing a mounting bracket, you have the option between flush mounts and downrod mounts. Flush mounts are the better option for low ceilings as they feature a lower profile. Downrod mounts are the optimal choice for rooms with high ceilings as they offer a pole that adjusts the height of the fan.

Identifying the source of noises is your first step to soundproofing a room without overspending. Generally, sound comes from inside or outside of the house. Inside noises include creaking floors, living noises like TVs in the living room, cooking sounds, or kids being kids. External noises generally include incremental weather, disturbing neighbors, and street traffic. Inside noises require you to soundproof floors, ceilings, and doors, whereas outside noises may require you to soundproof your attic, windows, and walls facing the streets.
