I trusted that they would complete the work. Instead, they took my money and one year later had not even started on the project. Yes, you can pour concrete over an existing concrete patio to resurface it. This is a common repair method called resurfacing. For the best results, the old concrete should be clean and free from debris, and the new slab should be at least three to four inches thick and contain reinforcements, like fiberglass fibers or wire mesh, to avoid cracking.

Cobblestone is just one of many driveway materials. Other, more economical, albeit less elaborate options include concrete, asphalt, and gravel. 

If you want a material that most closely resembles cobblestone, your best option is bricks or pavers. Both cost anywhere from $10 to $50 per square foot and can be laid in all kinds of patterns. Depending on the type of paver you choose, you can also get a good bang for your buck by investing in durable natural stone.

If you used regular jointing sand, you can typically walk on the repaired area right away. If you used polymeric sand, wait at least 24 hours before walking on it and 48 to 72 hours before driving over it, depending on the weather. Polymeric sand needs time to fully cure and lock the pavers in place.

In most cases, you’ll want your patio to be 4 inches thick, although you should add reinforcement and increase the thickness up to around 8 inches if you want it to support heavier loads and resist cracking more readily. Although thicker slabs will cost more, you’ll start seeing diminishing returns at around 6 inches.

Gravel is the least expensive driveway type, costing between $1 and $3 per square foot. That said, you’ll likely need to add new gravel filling once or twice a year which can add up in additional costs over time. In addition, be prepared to regularly rake the gravel into place to keep your gravel driveway looking its best.
