"I recently had an egress window installed in my home by JDS Home Improvement. I purchased the Rockwell Egress Window. This window brings in a lot of natural light and it's just beautiful! Jordan Jones put a hanger inside the cover of the window so I could hang a plant. Jordan,Joshua Jones and all of the work crew were very professional and kind. The quality of the work is superb. I even had a custom closet made that l am very pleased with. The installation of the window was completed in a few days. The staff cleaned up well. Due to the heavy equipment used, part of my lawn was affected. JDS planted grass seed and the grass has already sprouted in just a few days. If it were not for Jordan, this project would not have been possible. It is without reservation that I highly recommend JDS Home Improvement. I'm looking forward to using JDS Home Improvement for my next project."

"Professional, courteous, fast service. I called JLI seeking spring cleaning and landscaping services in preparation for an outdoor party. The owner was responsive and expedient and met with me that same day to assess what I needed. John had impressive knowledge of plants growing on my landscape and how to care for them. When it came time to perform the work I was thrilled with the job he and his staff had done and the beautiful curb appeal of the property when they were through with it. It didn't hurt that the owner was an all around nice guy, despite being skilled and knowledgeable. I am extremely happy with the work and fair price."

"I can't say enough good things about this company. Mike and his team were beyond professional. They were on time, courteous, clean, and of course knowledgeable. Mike always returned my calls or texts very promptly, and clearly puts the customer first. His team did an outstanding job installing a quality egress window for a very reasonable price, and it looks great! I highly recommend using Captain Egress for any of the services they provide."

"Compared to the others we talked to, they were more thorough when diagnosing the problem and did the least amount of damage to the walls and floor (less repair to deal with). When opening up the floor they discovered about 3 ft of footer was missing; they built a new one and finished everything in one extra day."

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

Basements are generally required to have windows for your safety. At a minimum, windows should provide an egress in the event of a fire. But basement windows do more than offer a way out; basement windows also offer natural light and ventilation in an area of your home that is otherwise dark and musty.

Yes, with modifications or the use of adapter kits for tricky placements.

Yes, egress windows are grandfathered. However, this comes with some specifications. If you are remodeling a basement or adding a sleeping area, you’ll need to update the egress windows to be up to proper code. But, if you’re leaving your home as is, you do not have to adhere to these requirements.

You install a window well 8 to 12 inches deeper than the base of the window sill. After filling the well with drainage rock, the well should sit 3 inches below the bottom of the window. The top of the window well should also be at least 3 inches higher than the surface-grade ground. The window well should be about 6 inches wider than the window opening.

An egress window is similar to a regular window. However, this type of window opens fully to allow people to escape the home or rescue personnel to enter the home if an emergency occurs. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be considered a living space.
