We are not currently taking on any new clients for any jobs that will last longer than 3 days due to a very booked up schedule. Thank you for your interest. Newell Contracting is a small remodeling business currently employing one full-time carpenter and one part-time helper, in addition to the myself, the owner. It is the kind of company that when you call, I answer the phone. My name is Kelly. I was born in '82, started in the business in 2000, started Newell Contracting in 2007. I am easy to work with, accomodating, and all my work thus-far has been referral based. I am generally booked 2-6 weeks out depending on the season. Estimates are always free, and I have been told by several people that I give great estimates. They are precise, easy to understand, well organized and show you where your money is going. Once we establish a working relationship, I treat your house like it is my own. I am up-front and honest about everything, and will tell you what can wait and what can't. I never hide things, and if there's a problem that is my mistake, I correct it. My prices are right in there with most others that operate a similar type of business. I keep the overhead pretty low (no flashy truck, I don't pay for advertising etc.)If you would like to see my current rate sheet, just send me an email. I do most work by estimate. Mostly only service calls are done by the hour. The bottom line: I want your business for life and will work hard to keep it.

Foundation Repair questions, answered by experts

Not all cracks in the basement floor signal foundation problems. As the house settles, you’ll notice very thin hairline cracks, which you don’t need to worry about. Cracks that are 1/8 inch or wider should require sealing, while ones that are 1/2 inch or wider require leveling. However, if you have cracks in your basement floor with heaving, you should call a pro to assess the situation. Heaving can lead to uneven flooring, structural issues, and foundation problems.

Yes. Water can penetrate through a concrete foundation wall. This can happen whether or not you have cracks, as concrete is a porous material. You’ll want to take steps to waterproof your basement or crawl space.

You could DIY the work, but unless you have plumber’s knowledge for identifying and fixing a slab leak and specialized equipment in your tool shed, attempting to DIY your slab leak repair isn’t a good idea. It’s simply not something that the average homeowner can take on themselves, regardless of how many successful DIY projects they’ve got under their belt. You could, however, do something simple like foundation waterproofing yourself to save some money on the post-repair work.

There are a few ways to reinforce a pier and beam foundation, including installing additional piers and beams for added support and performing underpinning, which redistributes the weight of your home further down into the ground where frost and soil expansion don’t pose a threat to the foundation. The best option for reinforcement varies based on your particular home and the soil conditions beneath it.

The best foundation repair method will depend on the issue you’re having, but usually, foundation instability is best fixed using supportive piers, like steel piers or helical piers. A professional foundation repair contractor or structural engineer should always decide what the best course of action is, and even then, it’s imperative that you also take measures to treat the underlying issue as well, like soil erosion or oversaturation from runoff.
