"I contacted Jamie because I thought my septic system was failing. Once he took a look at my yard, he thought the problem might actually be a leak in the water line from the street to my house. I asked him to see if he could find the leaking section and replace it which he did, saving me the cost of a new septic system. A number of months later, the water line developed a new leak in another location. I called Jamie again and this time we agreed to replace the entire water line. The work was completed within a couple of days and for a very reasonable price. He needed to dig a trench through my lawn, a gravel/flag stone walkway and dig up some shrubs. After he was finished with the pipe replacement he put the shrubs and walkway back the way they were and re-seeded the disturbed part of the lawn. Jamie knows everybody in the Scituate Water Dept. and took care of getting the water shut off and turned on again. I was very happy with the results and heartily recommend Mankewich Contracting."

"I switched to Septic Services after a friend told me about them. Incredibly prompt service! I had an issue with my tight tank alarm, reported it to the company I used to use, never got a call back. I am not going to waste my time calling them back and reminding them of something that needs immediate attention. I called Septic Services, they came out the next day, pumped my tight tank and solved my alarm issue. True competition to other so called septic companies."

"P&L has completed several major excavations for my clients and I. They are currently working on a 10 unit residential subdivision in Middleboro and multiple municipal projects for the city of Brockton, as well as completed dozens of new construction lots all around the area that required re-grading and clearing, new septic systems and more."

"Sorry, looks like this review got stuck in draft mode for quite a while. But the good thing about that is everyone gets to read a review with an update 1.5 years later on the quality of the work completed! In late 2020 I had recently moved into my new home and the gas water heater wasn't working properly. It was leaky and at least needed the pressure relief valve replaced, but the tank was well past it's expected lifetime. The techs were very helpful, kind and knowledgeable. The valve replacement wasn't going to work because repairing the tank could damage it further, so the tank was replaced instead. The price was very reasonable and installation was done really well. They did a great job with cleanup too! One and a half years later and the tank has had zero issues! I would definitely recommend them for heavy jobs like this or more simple ones around the house. Thank you very much!"

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

A shallow-well pump can pull water up to 25 feet deep. A deep-well pump can pull water up to 90 feet deep. A deep-well submersible pump can pull water up to 300 feet deep. Make sure to consult a pro to find out how deep your well is and get the right pump for your needs.

Most home wells start at 100 feet, and many go as deep as 200 or 300 feet

It takes quite a lot of water to meet the demands of showers, toilets, faucets, and appliances like dishwashers and laundry machines, and shallow wells struggle to provide this amount quickly. If you anticipate having high water usage in the future, it’s often better to drill slightly deeper and give yourself a bit more water storage than you need.

While dry wells can be effective for managing rainwater, they have several disadvantages. They can become clogged with sediment, especially after large storms, which reduces their effectiveness and can be difficult to clean. Dry wells are also not suitable for all soil types; they will not function properly in soil with low permeability. Additionally, if a dry well is not large enough to handle the amount of rainfall in your area, it can overflow. For gravity-flow models, the water may disperse very slowly, depending on the well's depth and the soil's permeability.

Most homeowners know there’s a septic system problem when they can smell one. However, this isn’t exactly a scientific deduction method. Consider some of the other signs: standing water or constantly damp earth in the drainage area, toilets and sinks that won’t drain or frequently back up, and loud plumbing. You really need to be on top of routine maintenance with septic systems in order to avoid such unpleasant symptoms of a septic issue.

A septic tank riser features a base ring that you need to install flush to the opening of the septic tank. After thoroughly cleaning the opening of the tank, fit the base ring over the opening and use a butyl sealant rope to create an airtight seal with the tank’s rim. Cut the riser rings to the appropriate height and stack them on the base ring. Then, install the riser lid. This task might be taken on by an experienced DIYer, but you should always call a septic tank professional if you are unsure of your skills.
