"After extensive research into all of the options available, I decided to have my kitchen renovation done by John Dolan. The kitchen design phase went well and all of the decisions I made (with the advisement of John, Caroline or Lorraine) ended up working out well. Once the demolition started, I was very impressed by how careful the workman were in protecting the rest of my space and that of my neighbors. Not a single complaint by my negighbors - in fact, they had compliments for how unobtrusive the renovation went. The workmanship in every step of the renovation has been excellent with meticulous attention to detail. They removed a ceramic floor and replaced it with oak that matches perfectly with the light oak in the adjacent living room. I could not be more pleased and very grateful I decided to go with John Dolan."

Customers say: True professional

"Jeff Veglia and his team did a great job on my condo renovation after we suffered extensive damage from a water leak. The project included a complete kitchen remodel, custom cabinets, plumbing, electrical, ceramic tiles, and all new plaster walls. Also replaced were dining room, living room and bedroom hardwood floors, and new plaster ceiling and vinyl flooring in the basement. We are very grateful to Jeff for his responsiveness and professionalism on this project."

"Working with WR Builders Inc. was a great experience from start to finish. Their team transformed our outdated bathroom into a modern, luxurious space. They provided expert advice on design and materials, and their craftsmanship was top-notch. The project was completed on time, and they kept the work area clean and organized throughout. Communication was excellent, and any concerns we had were addressed promptly. We are thrilled with the final outcome and would not hesitate to recommend WR Builders Inc. to others."

"Long Baths is simply great. They installed the shower of my dream that through no fault of their own succumbed to a manufactures defect. Chris Reynard and Long Baths worked fast and replaced my shower covered by my warranty at no additional charge. I am thankful to know I worked with a company that stood by their work and lifetime warranty."

"Pedro Quissanga was wonderful throughout the process. The project started out as a porch window replacement with an architect drawing plans, but once we started construction, we discovered that the whole underneath part was rotting and needed reconstruction. Pedro and his crew were hard working, reliable and careful, and his price for all of the work was very reasonable. When something went awry late in the construction, Pedro took it seriously and got people over within hours to locate the issue and fix the problem. Even though the project ended up being much more difficult than initially expected, there were never any unexpected charges and the additional work was at a consistent high level. We recommend Crystal Renovations without reservation and have several neighbors using them now for small-to-medium sized projects."

"After we called him Liam came by one evening after work, looked at the scope of the job and had a quote to me within 2 days. We scheduled the work but had to postpone due to rain. Rescheduled and had the work done. - Removed rotted wall trim board from around all four edges of deck and removed from site. - Supplied and installed new composite trim boards on edge deck on all four sides. - Re-secured joists to beam and reinstalled the decking that had sunk because of rotten joists to same location. - Removed existing broken attic stairs and replaced with new stairs and trim. All done personally by Liam Neely and his assistant Kevin between the hours of 7:00am and 1:30pm (very quick). Clean up was thorough. BTW - Liam is one of the most pleasant guys that we've had come into this house to do work. Highly recommend his services."

"A+++ Patriot was SUBSTANTIALLY less than all the other quotes I received. I wish we called them first! The remodeling project exceeded all expectations, transforming the bathroom into a stunning, modern space. The old bathtub, which had been in use for 25 years, was becoming increasingly difficult for a 90-year-old to navigate due to its high step. Now, thanks to the thoughtful renovation, there is a comfortable and easily accessible shower that allows me to sit down and enjoy the experience without any struggle. The new design is not only beautiful but also incredibly functional, making my daily routine much more enjoyable and safe."

"Overall, I would actually give the final product an A, and the quality of his workers an A as well.  However, I had to fight very hard, and personally oversee the project myself in order to get the quality I ended up with, and I consider that negative experience to be a part of the services.
A few examples:
1) There was an unfinished wooden plank put in the floor in the two new doorways, along with various holes along the sides.  I had to fight to get the floors finished and the holes closed.  Initially Mike was not going to do that work.  Mike argued that it wasn't in the contract, but I argued that "moving an existing doorway / building a new doorway", which were in the contract, implicitly should include the floor of the doorway.  To me it seemed like a no-brainer that the project wouldn't be finished with the doorways looking like that.
2) There was a large hole in the wall of the bathroom.  Several times Mike pushed me to leave a plastic patch panel there instead of closing the hole with new bathroom tiles.  He argued that if we left the hole open, we could have easy access to the internal plumbing in the wall.  I was clear that I wanted the wall back to the way it was before, as he had promised it would be as part of the project.  When he told me he wouldn't be able to find matching tiles, I ended up having to find them on eBay and ordered them myself (which Mike did pay me back for).
3) There was a major issue in the storage area above the washer/dryer where the humidity was skyrocketing when the dryer he installed would run.  Mike suggested that this was common and I shouldn't worry about it.  However, I measured the humidity before and after 15 minutes of running the dryer and it went from 45% to 85% in that time.  After more research, I realized that I could feel the humid air escaping from the vent pipe Mike had installed.  I shared this with Mike and he attempted to duct tape the area.  When this did not fix the humidity problem at all, I told Mike and received this text: "There's absolultely no air escaping or coming out of the tub, we taped the connection and we could feel no air releasing from the duct.  I don't know what more that I could do.  Do I have Chris go there at 12 or do we hold off on this for now, cause I'm not sure if there's anything else I can do."   I then spoke with Mike directly and told him that if they couldn't stop the humid air escaping with duct tape, they would need to potentially replace the special ducting with a more traditional ducting.  This was the fourth day off I needed to take as a result of issues, and I helped Mike and his team solve this issue.  At the end, Mike told me that he was glad I had pushed on this, because it turned out that the ducting they used was very poor quality and had numerous holes in the connections, and that I would have ended up calling him in 6 months after the mold had grown if it hadn't been fixed.
4) There were a number of issues with messes being left that I needed to clean up because my neighbors complained, either in the shared basement where they did a bunch of wood-work, or then in the back walkway where they also did wood work, or where it got covered with brick fragments and dust from the holes they made in the brick wall for the venting.  They didn't put up plastic to block off the kitchen, so when they did the demolition of the walls, we ended up with the entire kitchen being coated with dust.
5) There were various delays that caused the project to take roughly three months, as opposed to the initial 3-4 week estimate.  Mike and his team were so busy with other projects, that they only came one or two days a week, and things that needed to be ordered were forgotten.
There were other examples as well.
Ultimately, Mike's workers, including electrician, plumbers, and painters were excellent.  It was the lack of oversight and communication that caused the majority of the problems.  We are happy with the quality of the closets Mike and his team constructed, and with Mike's vision for the work, but I don't think I would hire Mike to oversee a project again, since he was almost never there, and rarely checked to make sure that the details were completed.

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

It is possible to install a two-in-one unit that has both a shower and a walk-in tub so you can still have both in smaller bathrooms or provide a showerhead for those in the household who prefer taking showers. You’ll hear these referred to as walk-in tub and shower combo units. Keep in mind that these combo units can take up more space than a standard shower or tub, and you’ll most likely need to hire a pro to install one.

Yes, a bathroom remodel is a worthwhile home improvement project that typically adds value to your home, offering a return on investment (ROI) between 60% and 70%. Potential buyers look closely at bathrooms and kitchens, as these are often the most expensive rooms to renovate. A modern, updated bathroom is more appealing and assures buyers that the plumbing, fixtures, and flooring have a long, useful life ahead. Beyond the financial return, a remodel can also greatly increase your day-to-day satisfaction by creating a more inviting, spa-like space. Even a basic refresh with new paint and accessories can make a significant difference.

What you include in your bathroom remodel will depend on your budget, personal preferences, and the current condition of your bathroom. Bathroom renovations often involve changing out the shower or tub, faucet, showerhead, tiles, flooring, mirrors, sink, cabinets, and vanities. You may also want to upgrade the wallcovering, adding new wallpaper or paint.

The average cost to convert a tub to a shower is around $3,000, but prices can range from $1,000 to as high as $15,000. A more typical range is between $1,200 and $8,000. The final cost depends on several factors, including the amount of plumbing work required, the size of the shower, and the type of materials and fixtures chosen. A prefabricated shower stall is a more budget-friendly option, while a custom shower with features like luxury tiles, unique tiling, smart technology, or accessibility features will be at the higher end of the cost spectrum.

To keep a walk-in tub in good condition, clean it regularly with non-abrasive cleaners. It is also important to periodically inspect the seals, jets, and faucets to ensure they are functioning correctly.
