"I am a long time Angie's List loyalist (both in CA and well as MA) and have had many positive experiences over 20 years. My experience with SP General tops them all. I have NEVER had such meticulous work/workers. This was a pre move in cleaning of a large condo that had had 2000+ sq ft of hardwood floors refinished (e.g. lots of dust), a neglected Viking Stove/SubZero refrigerator; granite kitchen/baths, whirlpool, two fireplaces etc. Long and short---a lot of interior space that needed thorough but careful cleaning. It has been restored to "brand new" condition---including finished basement and garage. They are truly unbelievable--- and I am a very hard grader. I give them the highest recommendation possible and will be using them for all my cleaning needs going forward. They are simply THE BEST!"

"There was no hot water on July 4th weekend. Boiler pilot wouldn’t light up. John was one of the first to respond to the HomeAdvisor request. He was at the house in less than an hour and fixed the problem very quickly. We were very happy with speed and quality of the service."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Yes. Boilers need water to run without overheating, also known as dry firing. If you run it without a sufficient volume of water, either because of a burst pipe or a leak, you run the risk of damaging your machine or jeopardizing the safety of your home as a whole. When in doubt, shut off your boiler and repair any plumbing issues before turning it back on. Alternatively, consider installing a low-water cutoff (LWCO) before any issues arise. This gadget will protect your boiler by monitoring water levels and automatically shutting it off if it gets too low.

Depending on the size of your home and system, as well as any upgrades or add-ons you choose, it may take between three and five days to completely replace an existing HVAC system from start to finish. Your contractor should be able to give you an estimate before they begin the actual replacement.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

The best way to compare HVAC quotes is getting a few detailed quotes from local companies with good reputations. Then, go over the quotes line by line. Protect yourself by insisting on in-person estimates that include equipment manufacturer names, model numbers, SEER ratings, amounts and numbers of materials, details of warranties on equipment and labor, and other specifics.

Knowing the exact equipment and materials is the only way that you can fairly compare quotes. Quotes that are much lower than others can be a sign that the company isn’t providing the best quality service or materials.

The main difference between an outdoor wood furnace versus an outdoor wood boiler is what each appliance is heating. An outdoor wood furnace burns wood to create heat, which warms the air and moves it through the ducts in your home. An outdoor wood boiler uses the heat from burning wood to warm water, which goes through pipes to radiators in the home.
