"Sean Farrell Excavation was hired to do over our driveway. Sean clearly reviewed all the materials, steps involved, and hours that the crew would be at our property. The work was meticulous and on time. Reviewing the steps beforehand left us with no surprises and we were able to plan our day to day around it. We were thrilled with the finished results. Sean took the time to listen, relay it to his crew and deliver a gorgeous driveway. We even got a phone call when work was completed to make sure we were happy, something that rarely happens from a company owner these days. I would highly recommend him and his crew for any similar work."

"Found Bob and Pro Cut through an online referral. Bob came by for a visual of the work and provided a work estimate shortly after. We initially looked to hire someone for the backyard but he proposed a job for the side gutter where the gutter was above ground and recommended to dig a trench and put it underground. What a genius idea. We moved forward with that project. For 1st time clients they ask for a 50% deposit. They completed the job in a timely manner. No complaints here. They communicated well and got the job done quickly. Highly recommend."

"Jerry worked with me to design and install front and backyard gardens with a beautiful stone patio and stone paths. His work is excellent and he knows his materials. He checked in with me along the way about decisions that needed to be made, even though that part was a bit stressful. I also appreciated his team because they were friendly and worked well together (and strong to deal with super rocky soil). We love walking the gardens several times a day and neighbors often stop to admire the beauty of the flowers and trees. We highly recommend Stonewall Pro."

"Cameron showed up right on time, measured and marked off the site and went to work. Excavated the site, spread and leveled 5 yards of 3/4? stone. The Reeds Ferry foreman complimented Cameron?s work. I have more work to do and Cam and his excavator can do the heavy lifting. Highly recommend Cameron."

"I only needed an estimate at this point - and to understand my options. I'm painting my house now and want to do the steps in the fall. Delio came promptly, explained different options, and sent an estimate right away."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Yes, professional installations include trenching or borehole drilling required for ground loops.

Digging a bush up by the roots is the most natural DIY method for removing a bush stump. Start by identifying the shrub type and revealing its roots. Cut the shrub to its base and loosen the soil, ensuring no utility lines are nearby. Optionally, treat the base with herbicide, then dig around the roots and cut a circle around the shrub using various tools. Dig a trench, cut the base of the root ball, and finally fill the hole to prevent regrowth. This thorough process ensures complete removal without damaging surrounding areas.

Prior to excavation, you should prepare the dig site and call 311 before you sign anything.

To get your site ready for excavation, you should move anything in the area that isn’t affixed to the land. You can save money on the excavation by removing hardscaping, including walkways, decks, concrete patios, and paver patios.

Before you carry out any digging, you should call 311 to confirm that there are no utility lines running through your excavation site. Skipping this step could lead to severe injury and property damage if your excavator hits a water, sewage, or gas line.

Excavation is priced in cubic yards, so you’ll need to find the volume of the area in order to calculate costs. Multiply the length, width, and proposed depth of your excavation site, then convert it into yards to get the volume. Multiply this figure by the price per cubic yard.

Most homeowners can measure by hand to get a rough estimate, even if it’s tedious. You may want to pull out a tape measure or use a string to help mark the area.

Concrete blocks are the cheapest way to base a shed. However, the space in between allows critters to go under, burrow, and even damage your shed’s frame. For a more pest-proof option, consider building a shed base with gravel or paver stones. Both options are fairly affordable and easy enough for a DIY project. For gravel, you can build a wooden frame to contain the loose material.
