"The guy was nice enough, but the work was scheduled for Friday, June 13 at 8 am; he didn?t show up until 9 am. He stopped working around 3 pm and said he would come back at 9 am on Saturday; he didn?t arrive until about noon. A storm came up at 2 pm, stopping his work. He waited for a while then said he would come back on Monday. He also left materials and tools on my lawn, which I had to move on Sunday so that I could cut the lawn. Finally, the completed job was done haphazardly; the tops of the pickets are not straight, unlike the original fence. See the attached photo?the section with new pickets (far left) is straight, but the one next to it with old pickets is not; the section on the middle right is not straight, and the section with the new and old pickets (far right) is straight. I had specifically asked him to straighten the tops, and he never did."

"Veteran garage door tech. “Rodger” showed up at exactly the appointed time. Introduced himself and went right to work, discussing with me what he’d be doing to correct the damage (I caused to my garage door panels, tracks and cables of my cable door drums. I purchased and attempted to install a set of new springs myself.)….Note to homeowners….I’m a pretty experienced mechanical tech myself; performing most of my own home & minor auto repairs over many decades. My complete inexperience with garage door systems could have gotten me seriously injured as I did not realize the potential energy I was placing in winding up the EXTREMELY OVERRATED torsion bar springs I INCORRECTLY purchased on line!!) So after receiving that well-meaning, much-deserved “critique,” Rodger successfully straightened out and realigned most all my damage without having to replace a lot of my “bent-up” components. He placed the PROPER-sized torsion bar springs, a very worn sprocket of my chain drive motor and adjusted the chain, etc. Most impressed by the expertise and speed in which he was able to do all that work (without a helper) in less than an hour-1/2 at most. Great experience; sincere folks (was told their company is a start-up since our area’s Hurricane Katrina of 2005.) Recommending their service to anyone (including do-it-yourselfers as myself). One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.
