"Service was all you could ask for! We were out of town when they actually did the work and we could see no signs of any debris left, tire tracks in the yard or any evidence that they had done the work except that all the tree work had been taken care of. Amazing! Thomas and Gloria were great to work with! Their service was prompt, the tree work was fantastic and the price was fair! We've had other tree service companies work for us and they were not even close in any respects. Precision Tree Service is the best company we have used, by far!"

"This is the 4th tree service I have used, and the only one I would ever recommend. They are punctual, professional, reasonably priced, do what they contracted to do, and leave your yard the best it can be. Rare these days and very appreciated by me."

"Mr. Burkes operates a very professional tree service. He took great care in making sure that none of the plants that I did not want damaged were damaged, even those next to large trees being taken down. I had twelve good sized trees taken down in one day and of which were very near my house. Highly recommend BBB Wood Service!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Aside from removing dead or diseased branches, you should prune your trees somewhere between every one and three years. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years.

On average, tree removal costs around $750, with a typical range between $200 and $2,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the tree's height, trunk diameter, species, and overall health. Accessibility is also a key factor; costs will be higher if the tree is in a hard-to-reach area or located near structures like power lines or your home. Additional costs may apply for services such as stump removal (which can add $100 to $150), log-splitting, debris cleanup, and obtaining necessary permits. It is also customary to tip the professional, usually between $20 and $100.

Pruning trees is important for several reasons. It improves tree health and strength by removing dead, diseased, or unwanted branches, which in turn encourages new growth and can help treat disease. For fruit trees, proper pruning can lead to a larger and better-quality harvest. Pruning also enhances safety by removing weak limbs that could break and fall, potentially causing injury or property damage, especially during storms. Beyond these functional benefits, pruning can also improve a tree's appearance. To ensure pruning is done correctly for the tree's long-term health, consider hiring a professional.

Finding a reliable arborist starts with researching specialists in your area and checking their licensing and certifications. Use online resources like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to conduct research on each company. Next, contact the arborist and ask the following questions to see whether they are the right fit for your project:

  • Do you handle or specialize in dealing with the issue I’m having?

  • Are you fully insured?

  • Do you have customer references I can call?

  • Do you have any third-party certifications?

  • What equipment and strategies do you plan to use?

In most cases, leaving tree roots underground is not a problem if the stump has been removed or ground below the soil. However, some larger roots may decompose, leaving dents in your soil. Additionally, some aggressive trees, including willows, oaks, elms, maples, and poplars may grow back from roots. Large aggressive trees with established root systems are more likely to grow back.
