"Precision Tree Service was wonderful to work with and their pricing was very fair. Since access was limited to the back of the property, they could not use a manlift and that definitely made this job more challenging, but Thomas and his crew clearly knew what they were doing. They worked efficiently and safely and did everything they said they would do in one day- four trees down and full clean up. I highly recommend Precision Tree Service and would use them again in the future."

"We had a large water oak fall on our home. The Smith brothers were at my house within an hour of the initial contact, and they offered a very fair price to remove the fallen portion as well as the remainder of the tree that was still standing. They treated this as an emergency job, and were able to break me into their schedule. By the early afternoon, the tree was off the house and cut up. The next day, they were able to come back with a larger crew and knock out the remainder, including stump grinding and removal. There is literally no sign that a tree ever stood here. Throughout the process, I was impressed by their professionalism, efficiency, and the care they took to prevent further damage. It takes a lot of experience and skill to safely remove a tree as large as this one right next to a house, and the same goes for removing a tree that's already fallen on a house. I highly recommend Smith's services."

"Mr. Burkes operates a very professional tree service. He took great care in making sure that none of the plants that I did not want damaged were damaged, even those next to large trees being taken down. I had twelve good sized trees taken down in one day and of which were very near my house. Highly recommend BBB Wood Service!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It is possible to burn out a tree stump if it is dried out and in an area of your property with a large buffer. Drill holes in the stump and dig around the base so it burns more easily. Then, build a small campfire on top using kindling and firewood. You’ll need enough to keep the fire going for many hours to completely burn out the stump, especially if it’s large.

Monitor the fire closely to ensure it doesn’t spread, and have a hose on hand if it starts to get out of control. When the fire is out, break apart the burned stump and dig out what’s left of it.

If this sounds like a good option, learn more about how to burn a tree stump before attempting it, as it does come with risks.

If you’re looking to rot a tree stump fast, potassium nitrate will work far quicker than copper nails. First, drill several holes into the stump using a power drill, then pour potassium nitrate pellets into the holes. Next, add water to help the chemical absorb into the wood, thoroughly soaking the stump to ensure the pellets dissolve and spread evenly. Afterward, cover the stump with a tarp to retain moisture and block sunlight, then place mulch on top to secure it in place.

Generally, no, tree topping isn’t a good technique, and you should avoid using it in most cases. Tree topping may be the only good option to save a tree following severe damage after a storm, but in most other cases, it’s not the right choice. Tree topping can leave trees vulnerable to disease and further damage, and most pros will suggest against it.

Tree roots can take weeks to years to die, depending on the method you use. Chemical herbicides take the least amount of time—typically between three and four weeks—while homemade methods, like covering an old stump with leaves, could take between seven and eight years. If you’re unsure which method to use or how quickly you need to act, consulting with a pro is always a good idea.

The best time to trim trees is in late fall through winter when the tree has slowed its growing for the year. Cold weather stops insects and fungal growth from attacking a new tree wound. Summer and fall are considered the worst times to trim trees, but it’s permissible in certain scenarios, such as tree disease, damaged branches, or small, aesthetic cuts.
