Fayette Heating & Air was founded in 1971 with one man, one truck and $500. From the start, Al Melrose was committed to providing quality equipment with integrity and outstanding customer service. As a second generation family-owned business, those same values lead our company today. Fayette Heating & Air has been recognized nationally, regionally and locally for both business practices and its community efforts.

"BUYER BEWARE!!!!! This company is all about getting their $99.00 for the estimate, selling you an annual service fee and then quoting exuberant prices. Not really sure if they really care about doing the actual plumbing work. Recently gave me an estimate for a job of $500. Learned later after from another plumber that what they wanted to do was actually not correct AND should have cost no more than $250. Had I used Fayette Heating / H20 Mastero, I would have paid $600 for a job done incorrectly. At least the 99.00 I paid kept me from damaging my house further. There are a lot of reputable plumbers in Lexington. Suggest you look elsewhere"

"Beware of shipping issues with this company. Ordered an ice maker installation kit on 10/10/25. Shipping was due no later than 10/20 according to company and FedEx tracking. FedEx tracking showed the package at their facility for 8 days without moving beginning on 10/15. Called FedEx 3 times. Each time they said they cannot find package and I have to contact shipper. Shipper has to make a claim, they will not mark it as lost. Called Appliance Parts Pros twice. Each time they say FedEx has to mark package lost before they will do anything. They also state they have to wait 14 days from them before doing anything because of their contract with FedEx. I don't care about their contract, I want what was ordered and paid for. Just going in circles with them and FedEX. If they shipped after 14 days it would be 22 days from that point, 32 days from the date of order if they shipped it that day. There was a deadline for installing this part before tenants arrive. They did not care, would not m"

"We've had Mr. Buford here twice - once when we first bought our house and discovered they had the refrigerator water line hooked up to the hot water pipe (!), and again today when he installed two new faucets which I had purchased. Both times, he did excellent work, quickly, and did not leave any mess at all. He responded promptly when I called him, and I told him it was not a rush job at all, so we worked out a time when it accommodated both our schedules. We also had him look at the plumbing in our basement, because we didn't understand why our washing machine drains into a reservoir which then gets pumped up and over to the sewer stack, and he explained that was the recommendation of the city of Lexington, for reasons he explained which I won't go into, but I mention this because you won't find anybody with more experience and expertise than Mr. Buford, and his rates are very reasonable. He's very down to earth and easy to communicate with. Highly recommend."

"Initially, AVAC system installed 10/2022. We elected to have FHS do the work since work performed on our plumbing was excellent. Then even against advice from friends and family we decided to have FHS installed the HVAC. Not until March/April 2023 did we attempt to use the HVAC. If failed to turn on. Reason: algae plugged a drain which prohibits a float switch to permit the HVAC system to work. The system should not have had algae since we had never turned it on till 6 months later. Five times or more till May 2024 we continued to have this issue. Cost to date was $450.04 to temporarily address issue. FHS said we needed to purchase a $90 tablet every 3/4 months to prevent this from happening. The one time we did, it became plugged up within 7 weeks. Furthermore, we paid for "Comfy House Inspection" fee of $19.95 each month with assurances to address any issue with plumbing, heating, & air conditioning. No time in this period was there another countermeasure suggested to fix our problem. This last time in May 2024 the technician said our return had fell off the HVAC system & another flex line had become detached. Tried to work with FHS, they failed to contact us within a week of emailing and calling. FOOTNOTE: all duct work is not covered under the warrantee only the hardware for cooling. Today, we cancelled comfy house and using those monies to pay another HVAC company to fix their mistakes & bilking us for money with a sham scheme to sell you algae tables which were never disclosed to us before our purchase. They can not be trusted to do the smallest of the right things, so how should you trust them to do the bigger thing. Listen to friends and neighbors, call around, get quotes, ask questions and just maybe you won't be hoodwinked like we were. Most of all insure the warranty covers not only the hardware but the supporting items that should be covered for more than 30 days from installation. By the way, the last 5 star ratings they managed to receive were in 2021."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

The good news is that most home warranty plans cover hot water heaters, regardless of whether you have a tank or a tankless model. Your hot water heater should be covered by your home warranty because it's considered an essential home appliance.

If you want instant hot water and to reduce water waste while improving convenience, a hot water recirculating system is worth it, especially if you find your hot water heater is not hot enough. These systems can save thousands of gallons of water each year so you don't have to wait for hot water at faucets and showers. The upfront investment can be high, especially for systems requiring additional plumbing, but the long-term savings on water bills and added comfort make them a worthwhile upgrade.

The chemicals in a water softener can wear down the anode rod in the heater and shorten its life span. However, for most people, the benefits of the softener outweigh this potential drawback.

Have a plumber inspect the anode rod annually for damage, as replacing the anode rod is far less expensive than replacing the entire water heater.

The cost to install a new water heater depends on the type and its size, but homeowners pay between $900 and $1,800 on average. By contrast, you’ll pay much less for certain repairs, like replacing a broken gas valve, which costs between $150 and $550 on average.

It usually takes a professional water heater installer between two and three hours to remove an existing water heater and install a new tank heater. However, it could take four to five hours if they have to work in a small utility closet or another tight area, like a crawl space. Tankless water heaters have a more complicated installation process, so they will take a bit longer. Additionally, a gas water heater requires a connection to a gas line, and that alone can add about an hour to the installation timeline compared to installing an electric water heater.
