"I just had Stone Age Masonry install a brick and flagstone porch, and I’m super happy with how it turned out! Eddie and his team really know their stuff. It did take a little longer than I expected, but honestly, I appreciate Eddie’s perfectionist side. He really takes his time to make sure everything is perfect, and it definitely shows in the final result. My porch looks amazing and has completely changed the look of my entrance! Eddie kept me in the loop throughout the whole process, which I really appreciated. If you’re looking for quality masonry work, I can’t recommend Stone Age Masonry enough. Thanks, Eddie, for the awesome job!"

"John and Steve did a great job repairing our stone wall even and suggested other ways to protect our driveway. They were both very professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant. We will certainly hire them again for any masonry we may need."

"We hired Jovan for a complete driveway demolition and replacement, along with the addition of an extra concrete pad. After receiving three quotes, his was by far the most reasonable. From start to finish, the service was excellent. Jovan paid close attention to details, communicated well throughout the project, and clearly takes pride in his work. One thing that really stood out was his professionalism and patience. Our retired engineer neighbor stopped by with numerous questions about the project, and Jovan took the time to answer each one thoroughly, even though he certainly wasn't obligated to do so. The finished product looks fantastic, and we've already received several compliments from neighbors. While replacing a driveway is never an inexpensive project, the quality of the work made it well worth the investment. I would highly recommend Jovan to anyone looking for concrete work. Great craftsmanship, outstanding customer service, and excellent value."

"Had the basement waterproofed when we first moved in. They did nothing for the foundation outside. We started having leaks in some parts of the basement. Everdry did foundation work outside and inside. Their guarantee is great. I would highly recommend."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Use fire bricks for a brick pizza oven. These bricks are typically used for fireplaces and chimneys as they can withstand high temperatures from heat sources. If you attempt to use any other kind of bricks, it’s likely that this material will crack from such high heat exposure in the best case—and potentially explode and cause serious harm in the worst case.

No, you shouldn’t lay bricks directly on dirt. While it might seem like a shortcut, it leads to a patio that shifts, sinks, and becomes a maintenance headache. Dirt expands, contracts, and erodes—none of which mix well with long-term stability. To build something that lasts, excavate the topsoil, compact a layer of crushed gravel, and add a coarse sand-setting bed. This layered base gives your bricks proper support, allows drainage, and helps block weeds from creeping through. Cutting corners here just means you’ll spend more time—and money—repairing your brick patio later.

Masonry work tends to be more expensive because the materials can be costly, such as natural stone and brick. Masonry is also very labor intensive, typically making up 50% or more of the final project cost. In addition, quality masonry work requires years of training and experience, as with any skilled trade.

No, you don’t need to soak the brick before cutting it by hand. In fact, cutting a wet brick can make it harder to see your score lines and may cause the chisel to slip. Soaking is sometimes used with power tools to reduce dust, but for hand-cutting, it’s best to work with dry bricks for better control and visibility.

You should worry about brick wall cracks when they are wide and growing, or in a horizontal or stair-step pattern. Additionally, they may be accompanied by other signs of structural stress. In these cases, a foundation specialist should inspect your home.
