"Ty and his crew did an awsome job. I live in a older home no insulation in the bedrooms. Ty came and gave me a very reasonable price on foam insulation blown in from the outside. Did it in one day, had some clean up and hole filling left to do. Retired when they said they would. Great company!"

"I highly recommend using Reliable Insulation for your home needs. I used them for attic insulation, underfloor insulation, vapor barrier, and putting a screen over the vent in my attic. They were very professional, honest, and hardworking. They did a thorough inspection and estimate and were very honest about what my house needed. They were in constant communication with me about what was going on. They were able to add on a few extra projects like adding a 2nd attic access and putting a screen in the attic. They were careful to lay down tarps to cover the bed and items when they were going to cut drywall, and left my house cleaner than when they came. I would absolutely use Reliable Insulation again!"

Customers say: True professional

"Two pros expressed concern about forcing foam or blown insulation into the vaulted ceiling with old bat insulation. The Reed pro offered workable solutions that would meet the goal but unrealistic in their scope."

"Weatherization Plus LLC was professional and quoted a reasonable amount to remove older insulation, seal up cracks in roof joists and replace crawl space with new insulation. Very pleased with temperature in home now. Thank you."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Furring strips, thin strips of wood or metal, are not always required for ceiling drywall installation. If the ceiling surface is even and in good condition, drywall can be directly attached to the ceiling joists using screws. However, furring strips become essential when dealing with irregular surfaces or when additional insulation or soundproofing is needed. They create a level substrate for attaching the drywall. Ultimately, the decision to use furring strips depends on the condition of the existing ceiling and the specific requirements of the project.

Both plaster and drywall are durable wall finishes, but they differ significantly in installation, cost, performance, and aesthetics.

Installation & Cost: Drywall installation is faster and more affordable, typically costing $1.50 to $3 per square foot. It uses premade sheets, making it a more accessible DIY project. Plastering is a labor-intensive craft that requires specialized skills, pushing costs to $2 to $10 per square foot. It involves applying a wet paste over a lath framework.

Durability & Performance: Plaster is generally more durable, longer-lasting, and provides superior soundproofing. It is also a better insulator, which can help reduce energy costs. Drywall is easier to remove for future renovations.

Aesthetics: Drywall provides a smooth, uniform surface ready for paint or texture. Plaster offers a high-end, naturally textured look that can hide imperfections and is often preferred for achieving a classic or historic aesthetic.

Which is better? The choice depends on your priorities. Drywall is ideal for those prioritizing a lower upfront cost, faster installation, and DIY potential. Plaster is the better option for a higher-end project where durability, soundproofing, and a unique, premium finish are more important than the initial cost.

You can paint over plaster, but repair any damage to the plaster first, or the paint will crack and bubble. You should also prepare the surface of the plaster to accept paint, which gives your paint job the best chance of looking good and lasting a long time. Before applying the color you want, apply a coat or two of primer. Additionally, use latex paint, and choose a latex paint with a satin finish for areas with dampness, like bathrooms.

Cracks, water damage, and holes from fixtures or impact.

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.
