"Justin was very professional and skilled in his craft. He showed up on time, and with all the materials he needed to knock out the job. He mounted the TV level and did a excellent job routing the wires through the drywall to conceal said wires and making my living room a little bit more complete. Couldn't recommend JH enough!!"

Residential Design FAQs, answered by experts

A garage counts toward the official square footage of a house if it is considered livable space. For a garage to qualify, it typically needs to be attached to the home and have permanent finishings like proper insulation, finished walls, and ceilings. It must also be livable year-round, which requires adequate heating, cooling, and ventilation. The exact legal requirements for what constitutes living space can vary by location.

Mid-century modern design focused primarily on two things: simple, functional furniture, often with geometric shapes, and specific color palettes that included earth tones and what we’d today call retro colors. Furniture often blended different materials, like teak or oak wood, with vinyl, metal, and glass. Common mid-century modern paint colors included browns, reds, burnt oranges, yellows, aqua greens, and whites.

Yes, many providers offer design consultations to help optimize and maximize space, functionality, and usage. It is recommended to confirm the availability of this service with your specific installer or contractor.

Palm Springs homes and similar mid-century modern architecture took off in Northern California, Seattle, and the Midwest. You'll also find many homes that emulate the style in northeastern states, such as throughout Pennsylvania and New York State. That being said, you'll have the best luck finding this style in its original home: Palm Springs and the surrounding area.
