"These guys were VERY prompt to get a softener installed when my old one stopped working. The new Hague unit uses FAR less salt than my old one, which is great. We had one fitting leak on the pre-filter, which was due to a hairline crack on the housing. This was not their fault at all, but they came right out and replaced the entire unit at no charge. Great company!"

"Plumbdog LLC. was a pleasant experience! Bruce Bennett was very swift and accomadating in addressing our failed water heater. He was able to replace it the very next morning when most other companies were two to three days out. Plumbdog LLC. has a very straightforward reasonable approach, is operated solely by Bruce Bennet and son, and gets the job done right for a few bucks under competitors rates!"

"I called Devon and explained to him briefly about the issues I was experiencing with my hot water running out quickly and he was able to get me scheduled for the same day! He arrived within the hour diagnosed the issue and ended up getting me a brand new water heater at a very affordable price! He even added an additional 10% off as a courtesy due to me being on a fixed income. I would definitely recommend this guy for any of your plumbing needs! 10/10"

"I called on Sunday afternoon because my submersible pump went out. It's my only source of water so I needed it fixed as soon as possible. I received a call immediately after looking them up and they scheduled me for Monday at 8:30am. They came out checked under the house to make sure the holding tank was still holding the vacuum. Then they checked the pump. It was dead. They put a new one in and it was ready to go! Fast, friendly service!"

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Drinking hard water is not known to have any negative health impacts. Using hard water can lead to dry skin and hair, and the minerals in hard water can build up in pipes, faucets, and appliances. Hard water is more of a threat to your plumbing than it is to your health.

Water purifiers and water softeners serve different purposes, so the best one will depend on your particular needs. Water purifiers remove contaminants from water (such as bacteria, viruses, and chemicals), leaving you with ultra-clean and safe water. However, water softeners remove minerals from your water so that the water doesn’t leave stains around your house or cause plumbing problems.

A tankless water heater should be at least 10 feet away from a water softener, although the pros you hire for water softener installation can help you determine the correct distance. These two units need to have some distance between them to prevent hot water from the tankless water heater from flowing backward into the water softener when it runs a regeneration cycle.

A good hardness level for drinking water can vary based on personal preferences, but an ideal level is 3.5 to 7 GPG. This means your water isn’t soft or hard. However, some people prefer the “fresh” taste from the minerals in hard water, while others like the smoother, “slippery” texture of soft water.

Experts recommend that you put two to four bags of potassium chloride in your water softener every month. This amount depends on how much is in the bag (40 pounds is most common) and what your water softener manufacturer recommends. For more specific advice, talk to a water softener pro in your area and read the manual that came with your system.
