Customers say: Terrific value

"She is a true joy to have in my home. She really does 'love to clean' and tackles dirt and grime with glee. She will be a permanent addition to my home maintenance routine! She is also very trustworthy and extremely reasonable priced. I used to have a maid service with a cleaning crew of 3 or 4 people coming into my house. She gets the same amount of work done in the same amount of time!"

"I was planning to clean the sofas & carpet when our kids returned to school. With college and high school students home full time, the daily wear and tear had taken its toll. Unfortunately, one sofa & the carpet were stained by ?, forcing me to seek a cleaner before our time at home had ended. I was very pleasantly surprised with how clean everything looked when Prestigious Carpet Care was finished - one of the stains was very dark, and there is only a very slight (1%?) discoloration now, only noticeable if you know where to look. All odors are gone, and everything looks like new. I would definitely hire Prestigious again, and won't wait for an accident the next time!"

"I hired S & I several months ago & I wanted to wait a bit to do a review. They always start off wonderful!! Isabel, Stephanie and Steven were excellent. They wore masks which I’m sure is difficult! Really professional & efficient cleaning has been done at my 2300 sq. foot home. They take pride in their work and it really shows which is hard to find theses days. I am very pleased with how detailed they are when cleaning g my home! I would definitely recommend hiring S & I Cleaning. They are going to also clean my windows inside and out in the spring. Not just house cleaners !! I love this ! Thank goodness I found them on Home Advisor!!!"

Small jobs welcome

"The crew showed up with smiles on there face and went after it. They were careful moving everything and cleaned every little crack and crevice. They had the best attitudes for cleaning a trashed unit! Best Iâ ve seen in 17 years!!! You wouldve never known it was trashed. They did an excellent job and definitely going to keep hiring!!!"

Cleaning questions, answered by experts

No, house cleaners or cleaning services do not need to be certified or licensed. Each state has its own requirements for licensing and certifications for companies, but most states don't require any special training to clean a home. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local guidelines for house cleaners and cleaning services.

To neutralize mildew smell, you can use natural deodorizers like baking soda or activated charcoal. Baking soda absorbs odors; sprinkle it liberally on the affected area, let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum it up. Activated charcoal, available in pouches, works similarly. Vinegar, with its natural acidic properties, can also neutralize odors. Mix equal parts water and vinegar, spray the affected area lightly, then blot it with a dry cloth. Enzymatic cleaners are effective too, breaking down odor-causing compounds.

While you might get away with once-monthly vacuuming in rooms you hardly use, it’s not ideal in other parts of your home. Your living spaces will look untidy, and leaving all that dirt lying around is not the most hygienic. Plus, the longer abrasive debris sits on your surfaces, the more chance of scratches or damage to carpet fibers.

Whether a scullery is worth it depends on how much you like to cook and entertain. If you frequently host gatherings—a scullery is likely worth the money. If you’re looking for ROI, it’s not so clear. It may not add significant value to your home, as it doesn’t increase square footage and may repurpose space that a buyer would have preferred to remain as-is (like a laundry room).

If you're already planning to hire an electrician and you know that you'll get billed the minimum call-out charge, you might as well make the most of it by having the contractor do another small job like replacing a light switch or electrical outlet. Even if you're paying for a new coaxial outlet, which costs several hours in labor, you may be able to save a little or maximize value by getting them to do other related jobs. For example, if you're having a coaxial cable moved, it's worth checking if you also need another electrical outlet in the new location or considering where else you would benefit from a new outlet . The cost to install an electrical outlet is around $200.
