"Normally I don't write reviews, matter of fact, I probably wrote 5 reviews in my life, but I truly feel that this business takes the upmost pride in his work. I'm unsure how many employees they have working for them, but the gentleman who came out was named Jeremiah (I apologize if I misspelled his name). The first time I used their service was when my son jokingly threw my keys in my car as I was closing the door. Nonetheless, I was impressed with how friendly and caring this man was. He arrived faster (within 15 or so minutes) than was originally said on the phone (which was great because I would have been late for work otherwise). Impressed with the service, I needed to have some fancy security locks installed on my doors (I'm one for privacy), so I called them up to ask about different locks and security information. Like I said, I was very impressed with the lockout service the first time,, so I called them up.. Now, I'm a pretty handy guy. I've done construction in the past so it's not like I don't know what I'm talking about. In the process of changing the locks, I asked him about ways to strengthen the door. I probably should have brought it up prior to him almost finishing the job, but even though he was almost done, he removed everything and installed some "security brackets". I honestly don't remember what they're called, but nonetheless, he took everything apart and installed them, then reinstalled the new locks. This guy was extremely friendly and amazing professional. I definitely would recommend them and I know I will use them again! Jeremiah (sorry if I misspelled your name), if are seeing this, the doors still look nice and strong as ever! Thanks again!!!"

"Choice responded quickly but the insurance plan does not pay for all doors to be re-keyed unless you have very few locks. The number of locks covered by the insurance is determined by keyholes, not doors! (Read your policy!) You will likely have to shell out some money to have this essential new-home service if you have more than four keyholes. The locksmith they called was EXCELLENT and made all our locks completely functional. We will happily hire the locksmith again (R.L Locksmith LLC). We paid $201.81 (plus another $50 for some door re-alignment not included in the re-keying benefit) and Choice paid $100 for the job."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Newer, electric-powered door locks generally have a life span of five years or less. That’s thanks, in large part, to a phenomenon called planned obsolescence, in which products are programmed to need replacing after a certain amount of time. That’s also why older, manual, push-key locksets can last up to 30 years with regular cleanings and maintenance. When it does come time for a new set-up, know that the cost to change locks ranges from $130 to $500 on average.

Whether or not keyless door locks are safe and trustworthy depends on the visibility of the programming code—and a trespasser’s determination. Even if you carefully guard entry and programming codes, those trying to break in may be able to crack open the lock’s faceplate with a screwdriver and change the codes. The same goes for manual models.

Some find smart locks the safest option because it’s harder to manipulate codes without access to your phone. But it’s possible to get hacked even then. Consider installing an extended security system, like door and window alarms or surveillance cameras, to enhance security.

Commercial locksmith services range from $75 to $500, depending on the job's complexity, such as key duplication, lock installation, or access control system setup.

Always consider security a top priority in your home. Perform a safety inspection of your home. Look for broken locks and rusty deadbolts, and take an inventory of who has access to your keys.

Consider the locks on your shed, safe, and other household items. Professional locksmiths can help you determine the best safety and security options for your home and feel at ease.

When a locksmith comes to your home, ensure your safety by having the locksmith show identification and provide an itemized invoice that you can reference later.

If part of the key is protruding out of the lock, you can use a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers to gently turn the key in the lock to open the door. If the key is fully inserted into the lock, you may also be able to use a key extractor to help turn the key into the unlocked position.

But if the key breaks off halfway into the lock or you simply can’t reach it to help engage the unlocking mechanisms, you should probably call a professional.
