Hoosier Locksmith had competitive pricing, and they were here within the hour to replace the lock . In addition, they made 2 sets ofkeys. They were very professional, prompt, and they solved the problem quickly.

They replaced the latches on the fixed panel of my front door. They did a great job and the door is no longer loose. They also did a couple of misc. projects. Overall, very friendly and great work. I think their pricing is very much inline with other locksmiths or maybe a bit better. <br />

The company has a very good reputation, so I had to give them a shot!. The locksmith was very informative, arrived on time. Performed in half of the time he stated he needed to do the work and the price qouted was the price I paid, no hidden fees! I would definitely use them again! <br />

If part of the key is protruding out of the lock, you can use a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers to gently turn the key in the lock to open the door. If the key is fully inserted into the lock, you may also be able to use a key extractor to help turn the key into the unlocked position.

But if the key breaks off halfway into the lock or you simply can’t reach it to help engage the unlocking mechanisms, you should probably call a professional.

Rekeying a lock changes the internal mechanism so that a new key works, while replacing a lock involves swapping out the entire hardware. Rekeying is a good, cost-effective option when you want to ensure old keys no longer work, such as after moving into a new home or losing a key. It's also ideal if you want to keep your existing lock hardware. You should opt to replace the locks entirely if you want to upgrade to a more secure or different style of lock, if the current lock is old or damaged, after a break-in, or if too many copies of the old key exist.

While lock crunching as a whole is not terribly common, it is one of the most frequently used means of forced entry into a home. Recent data suggests that forced entry through lock crunching or snapping occurs in more than 25% of burglaries.

It is best to use a dry lubricant, such as a Teflon-based option, for door locks. Unlike popular oil-based lubricants, dry lubricants leave a non-stick, water-repellent coating that does not attract dust, dirt, and other debris. Using an oil-based lubricant can cause these particles to build up inside the lock, making it difficult to operate or even damaging the internal mechanism. You can find dry lubricants, some of which are made specifically for locks, at most hardware stores.

In some cases this is possible, but it’s not advisable as the screwdriver is likely to leave marks all over the wall and a noticeable dent on the door. Move slowly and carefully if you have to use this method, and consider calling an emergency locksmith right away instead of trying to break in.
