"Tim and his team did a phenomenal job on our asphalt driveway and concrete sidewalk. Tim was very professional and took the time to educate us on the process. He kept in constant contact with us throughout the process and even met with us outside of normal business hours. We highly recommend TMS Outdoor Services to anyone who is looking for QUALITY workmanship. We will definitely be using their services again."

"Dean and his guys are the best. We felt like we were a priority and the amount of work done over the 4 days was outstanding. Almost 4,000 square foot driveway - 6 concrete trucks. They were done in 3 days and we couldn't be happier. The number of people from the neighborhood that have stopped and said how great the drive looks has just amazed us."

"I was very stressed about our driveway as to where to put the drain and not to mention how unlevel everything was due to basically falling down the hill! Carlos had it all figured out and it turned out great! We no longer have to worry about our basement flooding ! They did an awesome job, was there bright and early got it done in 2 days! He was very tentative to my concerns, communicated well and fixed everything!"

"Their price was reasonable. The guy that put down the mulch did an excellent job. He was on his hands and knees most of the day. They showed up when they said they would."

"EXCELLENT WORK! They did a beautiful job removing and replacing the concrete driveway. Corrected the slope, completely built new base course and rebar reinforced. (Was just a pad on dirt before) Re-sloped gravel driveway beyond the concrete and packed in new driveway stone. Bob and his crew are outstanding. They take pride in their work and it shows."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Building a road on a slope requires careful planning and will normally require a drainage system underneath to prevent flooding and damage to the road over time. Your professional may lengthen your road to create switchbacks if the slope directly to your home is too steep, as there are regulations for maximum road slope. The drainage system will help prevent runoff from the higher side of the slope from damaging the asphalt or concrete. Keep in mind that building a road on a slope isn’t a good DIY project, as a lot can go wrong.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

When asphalt cures, it typically changes from a very dark black hue to a lighter, more matte gray color. Cured asphalt also won’t be tacky or sticky to the touch or emit any odors from the asphalt mix. Additionally, the surface of fully cured asphalt won’t deform under any pressure.

Yes, a paved or repaved driveway can boost your home's value by increasing its curb appeal and the functionality of your outdoor space. A new driveway can add anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000 to a property's value. An old, crumbling driveway can be a red flag for potential buyers and inspectors.

The amount of value added depends on the materials used, the design, and local market conditions. Concrete is often cited as adding the most value due to its long lifespan, though asphalt may be more desirable in colder climates. The return on investment is greatest when replacing a driveway that is in poor condition; repaving a driveway that is already in good shape will not yield as significant an increase in value.

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.
