"Exemplary Contractor -- Made our "Top Five" list of the dozens of trades that we used in the construction of our new home.  Paul and his crew have an attention for detail that exceeds my wife's and my own.  The fact that Mrs. Sperback (Paul Sperback owner of firm) is an interior decorator simply added value to what has become a trusted and valuable business relationship.
We will not even entertain bids for our other properties since working with Protect and Preserve.  Their professionalism, pricing, integrity, punctuality, and absolute desire for perfectionism has won a customer for life from this outstanding contractor.
As mentioned, as general contractor, we worked with dozens of subs on a fairly high-end build.  Paul and Lindi earned our trust and respect early in our process.
Enthusiastically endorsed as professional a painting and finishing contractor as I have had the pleasure of doing business with in the last 15 years of managing real estate assets.
An example where highest quality outcome/performance can be achieved without having to pay ultra premium prices.

"Marcos from Lara painting was recommended from a few former neighbors and I have used his company multiple times. He is very responsive, punctual, works efficiently, and cares very much about the quality of his work and ensuring his customers are happy. For my most recent jobs, he painted the ceiling under my deck and stained the wood under the stairs of my composite deck. The stain color he selected was a perfect match and I couldn't be happier. He also painted a chalkboard accent wall in my daughter's room. I would highly recommend Lara painting and will use them for my future painting needs."

"As my ratings indicate,  it went very smoothly  George was keeping watch on the weather, arrived early and finished about 20 minutes before the rain hit our area.  He had been delayed by storms and heavy rains here but arrived at the first break weather permitted
I have recommended this business  to numerous people who have continued to use it for their landscape installations and maintenance His quote may not be the least expensive but he stands by his work and his word  After 50 years of loving gardening
I found out the hard way years ago a bargain price is usually no bargain!

"I hired Wood Renovation to power wash and stain my deck as well as replace some rotted boards. They did a good job replacing the boards, but they also missed a rotted board, which was not replaced. They did a good job power washing and staining the floor of the deck, but they only used one coat of solid stain on the floor, which was not enough. The Sherwin Williams stain they used even says to use two coats. The ornamental caps that sit on top of the balusters were covered with old, chipping paint, and they did not sand them prior to staining. The owner, Steve, indicated that he normally doesn't include sanding in a bid, but he did come out and try to sand off some of the chipping paint. They also used a paint sprayer for the deck railings, which did not completely cover any of the railings and instead got on my landscaping. I had to have Steve come back out two different times to touch up every railing. Fortunately, he was very nice and accommodating about it. Overall, the quality of the work was not worth $996."

"Eric did an excellent job -- and some of our windows on upper story are hard to reach --but Eric had the ladders to do the job correctly and make the windows sparkle. Also did a good job on the awnings - including removal of green algae/ moss on parts of the awnings. We plan to engage Hamilton County Services for our needs in the future.

"Eric and his people are very professional.  Eric is very nice and promptly to our request.  He fixed our roof on last Saturday since it was raining on Sunday. He also gave us good advice about our roof maintenance.  The fixing price he gave is very reasonable.  We will definitely use him when we replace our roof next time and recommend him to our friends as well.

"Max from Priority Painting gave a very fair, timely estimate for all the work to be done for painting my large 2 story house, large barn , and my very rusted roof of the barn. He gave a start date of a few weeks out and (unlike so many contractors of all kinds) actually showed up on that date and started work.
I am very hard to get a hold of by phone so I was able to do most communication through e-mail which was very nice. Max or his son Manny responded very quickly all along the process. Great communication.
His hardworking crew prepped the house, filled in holes, scraped, and repaired minor damage. They painted the house carefully and quickly- did an excellent job of cleaning up afterwards.
They did skip over the inside of our patio deck and doors and but very quickly corrected that after being remided that they were part of the estimate.
The only real problem came with the barn.It was not prepped well at all. Chipping paint was painted over causing the new paint to peel off immediately. I took pictures and contacted Manny. He came out and looked at it in person and said that it was in worse shape than originally thought and they would need to repaint it after rescraping it (I dont think it had been scraped to begin with !). He said they would need to charge an extra $300 for the extra coat of paint.  I did not feel this was fair since they had already given their estimate , but I did agree since I felt their original estimate was very fair. I think once you give an estimate, that should be it.
They also painted my very rusted , metal barn roof. They were supposed to give it a coat of primer , then a coat of paint. I'm already seeing some signs that may not have been enough to do the job. At certain times of day, it seems like it didnt cover as well as I would like. We will see. Priority offered a 3 year warranty.
Overall- excellent communication, fair price, reliability in showing up and completing the job in a timely manner.
I could have given them an A if it had not been for the barn issues.
Still would recommend them to others.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Hangers are one way of attaching stair stringers to a deck. These metal hangers are usually adjustable, allowing you to find the ideal angle for a secure installation. They’re the best choice for installing longer staircases, such as one on a two-story deck, to reduce the load on the deck frame while keeping the stairs stable.

Before installing a deck, you must build a base for the deck to rest upon, often made of compacted soil or gravel. While gravel is an optional material, it helps with drainage. Some contractors also recommend installing a weed control membrane, which helps provide a solid foundation for the frame. In the case of an elevated deck, a pro will often lay down a concrete slab as a foundation.

When sourced responsibly, the most sustainable wood decking options are timber trees like redwood, pine, Douglas fir, Nootka cypress, and Western red cedar. These tree species are fast-growing with low carbon emissions. Plus, most timber woods make durable deck materials because of their resistance to rot and decay over time.

Deck boards should be spaced no more than three-eighths of an inch apart. This is enough space to allow water and small debris to pass through without collecting on the surface, but not enough to create a tripping hazard. Certain materials, like pressure-treated wood, shrink over time, so they may need less space at installation.

Yes. Freestanding or floating decks are exactly what the name implies—structures with their own support beams. You can build a deck yourself and place it next to a house for the illusion of a connected deck without the hassle. Or you can construct it in a separate part of your yard for a dedicated outdoor entertainment space. For the purpose of removing a freestanding deck, the steps are the same as an attached deck, but you don’t have to cut the deck away from the home.
