"Tim was great to work with and was able to accomplish what we wanted on our 100 year old house. Masonry work isnâ t cheap, and you certainly get what you pay for. He was able to match our mortar so repairs blended in seamlessly. Before I found Tim, we had another company repair our chimney and they did half as good of job as Tim. Itâ s also nice to know you are supporting a local small business and craftsman."

"We have nothing but praise for the work Copper Canyon did at our home. They did quality work at a reasonable price. Colin was always very responsive, and provided great ideas. His crew members were all very hard workers. We were very impressed with this company from the beginning stages of our project to the finish. Highly recommend them, and if needed, will hire them again without hesitation!"

"These guys are wonderful. They even answered some questions unrelated to the work I hired them for. I totally recommend them for your concrete/masonry needs. I hired them to do some tuck pointing and mold removal on my rental property. They did an amazing job, the guys were courteous and respectful, and the price definitely made me happy!"

Customers say: Terrific value

"They did a fantastic job. The finished patio exceeded my expectations. My backyard is sloped downward from my back door. I wondered how they would make the patio level. I was reassured the patio would be level when completed. It certainly was! They stamped the concrete to make it look like stone and it is beautiful! The completed patio is far more than I could imagine! I am happy with the work they did and I would recommend them and use them again."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Mortar joints recessed more than a quarter inch allow rapid water infiltration, leading to severe brick spalling during Columbus freeze-thaw cycles. Cracks that reappear after patching indicate active clay soil movement that demands immediate structural attention. A leaning chimney poses a serious collapse risk. If you notice interior water stains aligning with exterior cracks, moisture is actively penetrating your walls. Address these warning signs early to prevent extensive masonry work in IN.

Helpful?

Allowing your downspouts to discharge directly against brick foundations accelerates moisture damage. In the winter, applying rock salt to your brick steps causes rapid chemical deterioration. High-pressure washing erodes mortar joints and forces water into the brick surface. Planting climbing ivy against your walls traps moisture and damages the mortar. Avoid adding mulch too high against your foundation, as this exposes your IN masonry work to constant dampness and accelerates structural decay.

Helpful?

Stair-step cracking in your brick veneer points directly to foundation settlement from expansive Columbus clay soils. Horizontal cracks in block walls indicate lateral soil pressure requiring structural reinforcement, not just patching. If you spot white salt deposits on your brick, address the underlying waterproofing or grading issues first. A leaking chimney stems from failed roof flashing rather than deteriorated brick. Always identify the root moisture source before scheduling masonry work in Indiana.

Helpful?

The success of masonry work in Columbus depends heavily on managing the local climate. With over 100 freeze-thaw cycles annually, water expanding inside brick causes severe damage. Ensure proper drainage to handle the 42 to 44 inches of yearly rainfall. Additionally, expansive clay soils in IN cause ground movement that stresses foundations. A local professional will match the mortar hardness to your historic brick and time the installation during moderate weather.

Helpful?

If you own a Columbus home built between the 1920s and 1970s, your original mortar has reached the end of its lifespan. Look for visible stair-step cracking in your brick, especially near the Flatrock River where soil movement is common. Wood-burning chimneys exposed to harsh Indiana winters are also strong candidates for masonry work. Check for white salt deposits on your walls, indicating moisture intrusion that requires immediate attention from a professional.
