"The provider claimed he was doing the procedure correctly by sanding, just one spot and putting stain over the area. He refused to completely sand, the whole table, and just claimed by putting a second coat of stain, it would look fine. He did not have any tools or sandpaper with him and asked us for some sandpaper . I inquired about sanding the whole table and he kept insisting that it was fine that he only sanded the spots that had crazy glue drop on it. I said he needed to sand the whole table and he just sat there and argued with me. He argued with me so much. I told him to go and leave the project. We called him after a few days and we requested our money back that he did not complete the job. He said he could do it the way I wanted it done by sanding the whole table. We gave him another chance to correct his work. He came out and worked on the table for two hours. He sanded 1/2 of the table and spots on the other half of the table, he did not sand the two inserts that also belong to the table. Then he proceeded to stain all pieces whether they were sanded or they were not sanded. He put stain over the old stain and said that that was fine, he had used a little steel wool to rough it up. and then he stained the half of the apron because he couldn’t see the top of the whole apron. He sloppily corrected a nick in the table and said it was fine. Everything he touched on the table made the table worse, I told him to stop working on it and leave and I wanted my money back. He refuses to give my money back. He does not know what he’s doing. He lied about his ability. He’s an old man that is not all with it in the brain. He thinks he wants to come back and try to fix it some more. I am not letting him touch my table. On further inspection he has sanded out the routed edge of the table. He has put the stain on and never wiped it off and he just did everything wrong and he thinks he’s doing it correctly. He should not be doing any work for any one."

Since 1923, we manufacture, refinishing, restoration, reupholstering, custom furniture & sales, bent glass, beveled mirrors & leather tops, & caning. Come and see our restored antiques, antique reproductions, and genuine Capodimonte lamps and giftware from Italy. Solve your heirloom and antique problems with complete restoration. We are specialists in water, fire and insurance work. We offer free factory estimates and home estimates are available. Pickup and delivery is available. Our other services offered include; leather replacement and bent glass doors, caning as well as expert reupholstering with our 10,000 piece fabric gallery. "Ralph was an amazing electrician! Very personable and understood the task at hand. When obstacles were in front of him, Ralph carefully planned out Plans B and C before proceeding. He was very knowledgeable and walked me through the process of receiving permits and what they required to ensure i understood what followed code. I also appreciated that Ralph went into details about his plans with you, so you understood what the project would entail, no suprises. Very responsive over text and email as well. His execution was phenomenal and I am more than pleased with all the work that was completed. Pricing was the best around! I would recommend R Savvy to anyone. There is no task to big or to small for him and the team to complete. Thanks Ralph for the great service 🙂"

Furniture Reupholstery questions, answered by experts

Paying to reupholster a piece of furniture means you want to hire the right upholstery service, especially for a piece that’s expensive or carries a lot of sentimental value. In your search for the right upholstery company, be sure to:

  • Ask around to see if friends or family know of any upholsterers

  • Find reviews of the company or individual

  • Look at the photo gallery of their work to see if they work on furniture like yours and if you like their work

  • Check qualifications and references

  • Ask the upholstery service if they work on furniture like yours, what their schedule looks like, how they handle payments, and how long the job will take

To safeguard your furniture and upholstered items, it's best to use plastic wrap or specially-made plastic sofa covers. However, you should avoid wrapping wooden furniture in plastic if you plan on storing it, as plastic can trap moisture and warp the wood, plus it may damage certain finishes. In either case, old blankets or moving blankets make excellent alternatives. For protecting delicate glass table tops and mirrors, bubble wrap is always a reliable choice.

If your usually super soft couch feels crusty and rough after cleaning, it could be that you haven’t removed the cleaning product properly, you used too much, or you applied the wrong type. Always check the couch tags to select the right cleaning product, read application instructions carefully, and test on an inconspicuous corner. For fabrics such as microfiber, you can soften and fluff crusty fibers using a soft-bristled brush.

When deciding whether to reupholster, repair, or replace old furniture, consider its age, level of wear and tear, and overall value. It’s usually better to repair old furniture because older pieces tend to be made out of hardwood, like oak and maple, whereas newer furniture is more often made out of plywood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and other less durable materials. When determining whether it’s worth the price to repair a furniture item, calculate the price of buying a new, similar piece and compare that to quotes from local furniture repair services.

Yes, you can reupholster antique furniture, and it’s a great way to extend the life of your pieces and keep them looking fresh and new for years to come. In fact, since reupholstering furniture is significantly more affordable than replacing it, reviving antique furniture can be a cost-effective way to keep that family heirloom usable for much longer. It’s usually a good idea to leave antique reupholstering to a professional, as they will have the tools and expertise to ensure the piece isn’t damaged and looks professionally finished.
