"I had 2 Mies van der Rhoe ottomans in need of reupholstering. Montalbano Inc. recovered the cushions and polished the chrome. Both ottomans look brand new. They did a great job."

Small jobs welcome

"They were super helpful and responsive. Fabric choices were almost unlimited. Once the fabric was ordered and arrived, the work was done in five days. They picked up my chairs and delivered them for free. Both chairs look wonderful, and I couldn’t be happier. I might have spent less buying new chairs, but I would have spent time, and wasted gasoline, chasing around finding what I wanted."

Emergency services offered

"We have actually used this provider a couple of times, but most recently we had an emergency in which one of our dogs ate a bag of white chocolate morsels and proceeded to throw up in every single room of our house (no one was home).  She threw up in places like the middle of a sofa (efficiently and effectively soiling 4 cushions as well as the base of the sofa) and an upholstered chair (again, hitting the seat cushion, back, and base).  Keith and his technicians came on two occasions to clean up the mess, which I honestly did not think could be done.  The rugs and chair and sofa are cleaner than ever before, and we have our home back.  Keith's prices are very fair, and he is very accommodating to his customers' schedules.

"Although I live in Alaska, Premium Leather helped me solve a cleaning problem with my ultra suede couch.  Mailing leather items to repair, dye or clean is a wonderful solution for people who live in an area where no leather cleaners exist.  I highly recommend premium leather

"The repair person was on time. He discussed with me the options for cleaning and repairing the sofas and chairs that needed work.  He explained what could and could not be done and gave a quote for the work. There were a total of nine pieces in all that needed attention.  He agreed to do the work in two visits and to split the cost between those two visits, which was easier on my budget. In some cases he needed to mix a dye to cover bad scratches in the leather, and the color was right on.  He took time to go over the finish as often as needed to bring up the luster in the leather. He worked clean, so no mess was left behind. Although I think some of the furntiure took a bit more work than anticipated in the initial quote, the charge did not exceed the quote. We were totally pleased with the finished work.

FAQs for upholstering projects in Wayne, IL

As with any project, weighing the pros and cons of upholstery can help determine if that is the right choice for you. The ultimate question is whether it’s worth reupholstering instead of buying new furniture. Here are a few of the benefits and disadvantages of reupholstering a piece of furniture.

Pros:

  • Preserving a family heirloom

  • Maintaining high-quality furniture in good condition

  • Reinventing an old piece of furniture

  • Keeping a piece of furniture from going to a landfill

Cons:

  • Spending (possibly) more than to buy a new piece of furniture

  • Finding out the frame is beyond repair

  • Waiting for the reupholstery work to be done

It can be cheaper to reupholster a chair or other piece of furniture than to buy a new one, depending on how much it costs to replace. If the chair or couch originally cost less than $300, then reupholstery may not be the cheapest option. However, if the chair is expensive, vintage, or discontinued, reupholstery can be the more affordable option. This is especially true if the piece of furniture is out-of-production or holds sentimental value.

Paying to reupholster a piece of furniture means you want to hire the right upholstery service, especially for a piece that’s expensive or carries a lot of sentimental value. In your search for the right upholstery company, be sure to:

  • Ask around to see if friends or family know of any upholsterers

  • Find reviews of the company or individual

  • Look at the photo gallery of their work to see if they work on furniture like yours and if you like their work

  • Check qualifications and references

  • Ask the upholstery service if they work on furniture like yours, what their schedule looks like, how they handle payments, and how long the job will take

On average, the cost to reupholster furniture is about $720 per piece. However the price range to upholster a piece of furniture varies widely from about $380 to $1,150 or more, depending on the material type and availability, repairs needed, and the complexity of the project. Fabric costs typically range from $50 to $70 per yard while the cost of labor runs from $40 to $100 per hour.
