"Excellent service all around. Called, answered promptly, got a fixed-price quote for cleaning our 3000 sq ft two-zone heated home built in 1959 and likely not cleaned since it was built. Competitors were much more vague about services and pricing and generally were "we can come out and charge you depending on the setup...". They explained clearly what they were going to do, how long it would take, and what results we could expect. Called ahead to check that we were home and suggested clearance of area around vents to ensure no breakage. Arrived promptly and on schedule. Put on booties before entering home. Were clear about work to be done, rough timing, and access needed. Set up large vacuum unit in backyard and large hoses through basement window, along with several agitator lines to clean each vent. Removed all vents (supply and return, about 30), cleaned them all, replaced them all correctly. Cut two access holes in ducts where necessary due to our ducting setup and patched. Vacuumed around all work areas. Cleaned out vents, which they informed us had gravel and tile (!) in them from a previous renovation. Promised four hours, took 3.5. Was noisy but not unreasonable given work performed. Outstanding and professional service. $500 total for a complex job, billed as promised. Would recommend highly."

"Great service. We had another company come to inspect the furnace. They stated we needed almost $800 in repairs. Since this did not seem right to me. I decided to call and get another estimate. I called Mike and explained what I was told by the other company and he said that did not make sense. He said that if we did need those repairs they would charge half of what I was quoted. I asked if they could come out and he said they did not have anyone available. However he could have his brother Steve one of the owners come out and see if we could benefit from a new system At the same time he could see if we really needed repairs. He did give us a quote for a new furnace , a/c ans home zoning. This was $4000 less than the other company wanted. Also we did not have to pay it all at once. We were allowed to make payments with no interest."

"Bought Amana (Single Stage) HVAC System. Our old American Standard HVAC broke. They came in 2 weeks before and replaced the Gas Valve for $600 and 2 weeks later that broke too because of the electric board. They convinced us that instead of spending more money on parts that may also break later it's better to buy a new HVAC system. They recommended Amana dual stage - Variable system but next day they called that it was a mistake to recommend that because it doesn't exist in 15" size, so now they recommended Single stage and lower the price by $500. Not only that, but they helped us and went out of way to accommodate us with price. Likewise, they fixed it during Thanksgiving weekend."

"Rob was fantastic. Very knowledgeable. Very kind. He took me step by step through. the whole process of replacement. I appreciated how he made sure I understood everything. In the end a family member helped with a quick fix. For now OK. But for anyone looking for someone to trust and give you honest information. EE'S HVAC is one you should call."

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.

It can be difficult to know right away if your central vacuum is clogged since it operates quietly compared to regular vacuums. However, there are a couple of signs you can look for. If you feel like it’s losing suction or isn’t cleaning effectively, then there’s likely a clog somewhere.

Make sure you turn the vacuum on and feel the end of the hose handle. If you don’t feel any suction, then you’re dealing with a clog in the hose. You can see if the clog is further down in the system by attaching the hose to each outlet until you find the one with the least amount of suction.

If your central vacuum has lost suction, you probably have a clog in the system. You can remove a clog yourself using a portable vacuum cleaner or central vacuum maintenance sheets. Stubborn clogs or damage to the system require a specialized technician to repair.
