"The workers and office staff were easy to talk to, well informed, courteous , and efficient. They performed a thorough inspection. Recommended and installed a stainless liner and cap for the furnace flue and a new damper on the fireplace flue. Their price was better than previous quotes and even set up a partial payment plan. I am very pleased with the work they did."

"I was extremely happy with response to my inquiry if needing work done, explaining what needed to be done, working with me to schedule a date/time to complete the work. Not only was the initial project done but a last minute request for some masonry repair on some loose foundation blocks was also done. My fireplace mantle looks great and they were very professional and friendly. I would highly recommend to family, friends and neighbors."

"We have Frontpoint at two houses. We had been looking for ways to cut our monthly expenses (Frontpoint is approx. $100 per month total), so I called them to find out what I could do. They informed me that I was under contract for another year, and that I cannot get out of the contract without an early termination fee that is equal to the cost of the service. I'm a little disappointed, because the upfront cost of the system was very expensive ($1,000+) for each house, so it seems odd that I would get sucked into this contract. Nevertheless, I forgot that I signed up for this with them. My calendar is marked for the day that my service ends, and I will be switching to a company that charges about half of what they do. They have OK customer service and are very responsive, but the wireless system had some issues with reception in my house due to a fireplace, and then they didn't want to work with me to get that resolved. They're OK, but I can't really recommend them."

"I hired the company to do a make ready [clean up & prep] on a single apartment in a building which I own in the  town where I live. I needed the property to be cleaned up so I could rent it again.  I have been a landlord for over 20 years & hadn't found a vacated property in such a mess in all my years. They did the complete interior clean-up which took about five hours. And, the complete prep of the property. they took out all the trash & junk, and cleaned up all debris left in the yard. They did such a great job with that I decided to use them for the yard maintenance also. They cleaned all my flowerbeds & got them ready for spring, placed mulch & trimmed the shrubs and flowering trees. On the inside they made everything look brand new! Cleaning the walls, painting, cleaned the carpets & stripped & polished the wood floors...making them look brand new. The appliances that stayed were cleaned inside & out. They even remembered to get all the light fixtures clean for me. Dusted all window seals & doorways. Shine mopped all they tile floors. To top it all off they even gave the bathrooms a fresh clean look by putting a new caulk seal around the tubs, sinks & shower...which gave the bathrooms a fresh face. All in all I found it to be a very stress free pleasant experience. And, I will definitely call on them for the next project because if they could do so well with a nightmare like that I'm sure the less difficult will be equally affordable and easily handled. Everything just looked so nice when they were finished. Thanks, Green Earth

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Yes, combining fireplace service with other projects streamlines the process. Grouping chimney repairs with exterior brick tuckpointing allows contractors to use the same scaffolding. Adding a gas insert while upgrading a furnace maximizes efficiency since the plumber is already on-site. Pair these projects with weatherization and air sealing to protect your IL home from drafts. Schedule these combined upgrades during the off-season to ensure your home stays warm through winter.

Helpful?

Older IL homes feature unlined flues or single-wythe brick chimneys that require extensive rebuilding during fireplace service. Finished basements block access to ash pits, requiring contractors to open walls or floors. Low-slope roofs on ranch homes complicate required chimney height extensions. Additionally, mature trees block access, interior chimney chases make repairs invasive, and historic district restrictions delay exterior modifications like cap replacements or visible flashing changes.

Helpful?

Schedule immediate fireplace service for active water intrusion, heavy creosote buildup, compromised flue liners, gas leaks, or active wildlife nesting. These hazards pose severe safety risks to your property. Delay cosmetic surround repairs, elective gas conversions, and minor tuckpointing until late spring or summer. Contractors in Springfield experience peak demand from August through November, making the off-season the ideal time to book non-emergency repairs and upgrades.

Helpful?

Certified chimney sweeps handle annual inspections, cleaning, and basic repairs for your fireplace service. Masonry contractors manage structural work like tuckpointing or rebuilding fireboxes, which are common in Springfield’s historic brick homes. HVAC contractors and plumbers manage gas conversions, inserts, and gas line connections. For projects requiring wall modifications or multiple trades, hire a general contractor to coordinate the work and pull necessary city permits.

Helpful?

Springfield’s freeze-thaw cycles cause hidden mortar damage and cracked flue liners that only appear during an inspection. Older homes require code-mandated upgrades to chimney height or clearances when scheduling fireplace service. You will also encounter fees for mandatory permits and inspections. Additionally, removing protected wildlife, addressing asbestos or lead paint, and fixing water damage from low-slope chimney caps add unforeseen expenses to your project.
