"I think they treated the wrong lawn. The note they sent me via text message referenced trees and shrubs in my yard, I have none. They also did not leave a yard marker showing they had been there. Otherwise, this would have been a 5 star review."

"Charles was very nice to deal with. I showed him what I needed done and he quoted me a very fair price for the work. He had come to give me an estimate but when we agreed on a price he asked if he could go home and get his ladders and do the job the same day--GREAT SERVICE!! I would say he was very fair on price and his work was excellent! I gave him a 20% tip because of how and how fast he completed the work!!"

Lawns questions, answered by experts

Avoid leaf removal contractors who propose blowing debris into the street, as this violates Springfield municipal codes. Reject professionals who lack general liability insurance, which protects your property from damage. Watch out for companies offering only a single October visit, because staggered tree drops require multiple cleanups. Finally, ensure your contractor explains their disposal plan, since open burning is strictly prohibited across IL city limits.

Helpful?

Schedule leaf removal when leaves cover more than 20 to 25 percent of your lawn for over a week. Springfield experiences heavy October rainfall, causing leaves to mat down quickly and suffocate clay-heavy soils. You should also watch your ash trees, as stressed trees drop leaves as early as September. Plan multiple cleanups, since oak and maple trees drop leaves in staggered waves throughout the IL autumn season.

Helpful?

You have several excellent eco-friendly choices for leaf removal in Springfield. Mulch-mowing shreds debris directly into your lawn, returning vital nutrients to the soil. You can also compost leaves on your property to improve clay-heavy dirt. For larger volumes, utilize the municipal curbside vacuum program or pack debris into biodegradable bags for city yard waste collection. Remember that open burning is illegal throughout the IL area.

Helpful?

Success depends on timing your leaf removal before the first freeze to prevent moisture from locking into the heavy clay soil. Because Springfield experiences intense autumn winds, your lawn requires at least two cleanups to handle debris blowing in from neighboring yards. You must act within days of heavy drops, as frequent IL rainstorms quickly mat leaves down and cause crown rot in cool-season grasses.

Helpful?

Prompt leaf removal protects your turf from gray snow mold by allowing oxygen to reach the poorly draining clay soils in Springfield. Clearing debris also prevents dangerous fire risks during dry autumn winds. In the long term, a clean lawn survives the harsh IL freeze-thaw cycle much better. Removing leaves also stops cool-season weeds from germinating and keeps neighborhood storm drains clear during heavy fall rainstorms.
