"A small testing device was set up in our basement and was left in place three days. The device was then picked up and we received a phone call a day later informing us of the radon level detected. This was followed up by a professionally prepared report mailed to us detailing the results and how to interpret them."

"JC Radon Solutions did a great job in the installation of our radon mitigation system. They arrived at the agreed time for both the proposal visit and then for the install work. The work area was kept clean during the install. A great job by a great company. I highly recommend JC Radon Solutions for radon mitigation work. Prior to the mitigation work, radon monitoring recorded average readings of 10. Now the readings are 3.5. Very pleased with the JC Radon Solutions system."

"Mike from Us Waterproofing came out to give me an estimate on repairing a foundation crack, which over time caused seepage into my lower family room, resulting in mold behind the drywall.  He explained a process that could be done from the outside to seal the crack, instead of cutting out the wall.  The following week a hole was dug down to the foundation, filled with clay powder, and the crack above the soil was sealed with something like tar.  With rain the clay powder hardens and seals the crack.  I tested using a garden hose and it worked! No water leaking into the family room.  US Waterproofing quickly fixed my issue and it is warranted for life.

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Radon enters your home when warm air begins to rise and exits through the roof, creating a vacuum that pulls cooler air from under the foundation. Part of that air is radon, which is an invisible, odorless gas that develops naturally when radioactive particles are deep within the ground. Those particles usually come from decaying matter in soil and rocks.

Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas that poses serious health risks, infiltrating homes through foundation cracks and unnoticed spaces.

Testing every 2-5 years or upon adjusting occupancy or structural changes maintains safe environments.

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.

The lifespan of a radon mitigation system depends on the type of system and its maintenance. With proper care, a system can last for many decades. Passive systems tend to last longer as they have fewer components that require replacement. Active systems, which have more moving parts like fans, generally have a shorter lifespan. For instance, water filtration devices and active pressurization systems require more frequent maintenance. While the system as a whole is durable, the radon fan in an active system typically has a lifespan of 5 to 10 years and will need to be replaced. As long as the fan is working, the mitigation system should function correctly.
