"Requesting a quote from and then hiring Illinois Tree Service was quick and easy. Their quote was the same as another large operation in town, but they didn't need to bring massive equipment into the yard as the other company had in the past. A large crew of men worked safely and efficiently for about six to seven hours to remove both old cottonwoods and grind their stumps. They cleaned up beautifully as they worked and left the yard free of sticks and branches. I would highly recommend them."

"Luis and his crew has done fabulous work on our property for a few years. Their work is impeccable. They make our yard look like Walt Disney World! We definitely recommend this company! Some trees will bounce back just fine, and others will struggle and possibly die. Evergreens, for instance, have a very difficult time recovering after droughts and usually die after periods of extreme dryness. Usually, you’ll have to just wait and see—if the drought occurs in wintertime, it’s possible that your tree will recover during the gentler springtime.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.

The best way is to start controlling tree height long before it grows too large, via careful pruning through the years. But that’s not always possible. If a tree has become too high or too large, use selective pruning to remove the most troublesome branches, one by one, without topping the tree. Gently shaping a tree like this can, over time, correct problems. You can also find growth inhibitors to spray on a tree to stop it from growing too rapidly, but use these sparingly if at all.
