"Rick did a superb job painting a vaulted hallway and formal living/dining room. It took a few days but each evening his supplies were neatly stored and out of the way. He was conscientious about making sure he met the deadline for a Christmas party, as well. The final result was exactly what we were hoping for....we couldn't be happier. We call him again for any painting needs."

Customers say: Quality work

"I could not believe how quickly James contacted me after I submitted my request. He was so polite and understanding. Shawn came out the very next day to do the repair I needed, and what a beautiful job he did! I've been telling my family and friends about how impressed I was with this company. Not only was their work amazing, but their cost to do the work was also very affordable."

""Gordon and Gabrielle exceeded my expectations in the quality of workmanship, professionalism and cleanliness. As far as workmanship, they prepped all surfaces, tarps on ground, taped and covered all items and pressure washed our large deck. They applied 2 coats of paint to interior walls and stained deck. With regards to professionalism, everything was completed on schedule and on time. Gabrielle provided us with an estimate, a start date, a finish date and what time they would show up in the morning and leave at the end of the day. Everything went as scheduled. Gordon checked in with me regularly on progress and what would be completed next. Gordon is an excellent communicator, friendly and helpful. Finally, clean up was thorough, leaving only spare paint to use as needed. Our house and deck look new. ValueProPainters was well worth the price paid for the quality of work done and my satisfaction with the results. I will definately be using them again for future projects."

Painting questions, answered by experts

Pricing depends on prep work, paint/stain choice, area size, scaffolding needs, and detailed trim inclusions like precision-balanced windowsills.

Both a roller and a brush are effective methods for painting a chain link fence. A roller will make the job easier by ensuring symmetrical strokes and reaching the backside of the fence as well, which cuts down on paint time. However, a brush is often necessary for painting the base of the fence and near the posts due to its ease of reaching smaller spaces.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.
