Small jobs welcome

"Freedom Plaster did a nice job refinishing my entryway. They did not leave a mess and everything looks nice. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because I couldn't get an exact date or time they would be able to show up. I understand they have other jobs they must complete and at times those rune over the estimated end date. I was given an approximate date but they showed up a day to two later without calling to let me know when they would be there. Not a big deal if you are home and do not need to make plans to be there to let them in. Overall very good experience and I would use them again, but verify a date and time before they show up."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can use drywall repair techniques for some types of plaster damage. Tiny holes and small cracks in plaster can be patched in similar ways to drywall. You apply the necessary compound to fill the hole, wait for it to dry, then sand it down. For larger damage, like water damage or mold, you need to use plaster-specific techniques and materials.

You can plaster over regular drywall, but it's essential to prepare the surface properly. Before plastering, the drywall should be clean, free of dust, and any loose or peeling paint should be removed. Applying a primer specifically designed for plastering can improve adhesion. Some professionals recommend applying a base coat of plaster or joint compound to create a better surface for the plaster to adhere to. Proper preparation ensures a smooth and durable plaster finish over regular drywall.

The cost to repair a ceiling after a water leak can vary, with averages ranging from $419 to $1,359, or $45 to $55 per square foot. Smaller patches may cost around $150. The final price depends on the size of the affected area and the extent of the damage. Remember that you will also need to repair the source of the leak, such as roof damage or a plumbing issue, which can cost an additional $200 to $1,550. Depending on the situation, you might also face costs for repainting or repairing floors. For an accurate estimate, it is best to get a quote from a professional.

The tool you use to sand plaster will depend on the size of the project. If you’re just working on a small section of your wall to get rid of an uneven spot on the surface, hand-sanding might work. However, for larger projects, a drywall sander can make a huge difference when it comes to both time and elbow grease—and an orbital sander can help for detailed areas such as around ceiling fans.

Repairs typically take 2-4 hours for small areas. Larger or more complex repairs may require additional time.
