"A&W representatives were very professional and provided us with a clear explanation of the damage and the options for repair. A&W worked directly with our home insurance company to verify the full cost of the roof replacement and that it would be fully covered under our insurance policy. The roof was replaced in one day. Their was a minor issue with the quality of the fascia that was replaced on one side of the house but it was resolved satisfactorily in a timely manner. I would not hesitate to recommend A&W to anyone needing roof repair work."

"Lifetime was able to scope out our roof project, provide material options, and a quote faster than the other 4 local companies we considered for our 1,200 sq ft roof replacement were able to simply schedule a visit to / and examine our roof. The project manager (Tom B.) was unbelievably responsive, kept us fully informed through every step of the process, and made sure we had a full understanding of the services we'd be receiving. Besides the exceptionally fast and communicative project management, Lifetime was among the most affordable options we considered. I can't recommend them highly enough, and if you have a chance, ask to work with Tom B!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The most important thing to remember when laying shingles is to work from the bottom of the slope to the top. This leaves you with a top overlap that directs runoff from one row to the next until it reaches the eave for disposal. You should also make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions and the local building code for nailing patterns and frequency so all of your hard work stays put through varying weather conditions.

DIY is not recommended, as slate requires specialized handling and proper underlayment installation for durability.

Skipping the installation of a drip edge or gutter apron can lead to significant water damage. Without this component, water is more likely to seep under roofing materials or leak behind gutters, damaging the fascia, soffits, siding, and even the interior of your home, such as the attic. Over time, this moisture can cause rot, mold, and deterioration. In colder climates, a missing drip edge also increases the risk of ice dams, which can lead to expensive repairs. A drip edge is an essential part of a roof's drainage system, and some local building codes may even require its installation to protect the home from water damage.

Though roof coatings can last up to two decades, it’s a good idea to recoat your roof every four to six years. This is especially important if you have a built-up roof, which is vulnerable to moisture issues. Inspect your built-up roofs annually to make sure they don’t need a new coat.

The most common slope, or roof pitch, for a shed is 4:12 or four inches of height for every horizontal foot. For areas that experience heavy snow loads, a steeper roof of 6:12 or 9:12 is best.
