DO NOT EVER use this company. First problem, they don't stay on schedule. They didn't even finished the job or seal around the chimney or any area on top the roof. The day of thanksgiving a few days after they "finished" the job, it started raining. Water started gushing in the house and all down the walls. My mother called their emergency line and they refused to come out because of the holiday, and said they would come out the next day. They never did and water was still coming in the house, so my mom had to call a repair service to come out to stop the water which was another claim to her insurance. Then daech and bauer wanted to be paid for the completion of their work and wouldn't pay for the emergency contractor that my mother had to pay to come out to fix the roof. they forced my mother to pay for the job and still to this day haven't reimbursed my mother or her insurance company for work they refused to repair. When Tony and a couple of his workers came out to give us a quote, they looked at all the work that we wanted to be done, and quickly gave us a quote for about 3K less than another company had quoted us. It seemed like a great deal at the time, so we said ok. The work to be done was to smooth out the heavy texturing in the living room and dining room, skim a couple small hallways and a couple small walls in the kitchen, fill in three 10" holes from lights in the bedroom ceilings, fill in large holes from two bathroom cabinets, fill in holes from the bathroom lights, plaster over a small hole under the mailbox slot, and repair a damaged cove molding. I said that I would remove the small cabinets in the bathrooms, and remove the wallpaper paste that was in the bathrooms before they worked in there. We all agreed on everything and they left. Tony said that they would start the work in the living room the next day, so that night I removed the baseboards so that the new plaster could go all the way to the floor. When I came home that night I found out that all of the work was done that day, not only the living/dining room. At the time it was a pleasant surprise, until I noticed that they had plastered over the wallpaper paste in the bathrooms. When there were getting ready to leave it was later, and getting dark outside. Since so many lights were removed in so many rooms it was hard to see the issues with the work. They asked if there was anything else to be done, and since I didn't notice anything at the time, they left. The next day we started looking around the house, and started noticing several issues. The plaster in the living room was "pasted" onto the walls, so the electrical sockets are now sunk into the walls, not at the level they should be. The bottom edge was also very jagged, and there were sections that were so high that even after the baseboards would of been re-installed there would be 1" gaps in the plaster. In the hallways where the walls were skimmed the baseboards were never removed, and the plaster was covering them, so if they were ever removed it would crack the plaster and it would be uneven. The plaster over the mailbox hole and the cove molding was also cracked. I called Tony, and he sent a couple guys out that did all the work I pointed out to them. We were happy with the work at the time, but then again, it was dark outside again and we couldn't really see that well. About a week and a half later we were going to start painting all the walls. We saw that there were uneven spots in the plaster, random small holes all over the place, and spots of raised-up, excess plaster. We didn't want to deal with having any more workers in our house, so we spent about 30 man-hours sanding and scraping the walls to get the to the point we wanted. When we were getting ready to paint the cove molding, my wife saw that it didn't have a sand finish on it, like the rest of the molding did. When the cove molding was repaired for the second time, I was told that the finish comes from the paint, and not to worry about it. I didn't know any better, but my wife did, and she was the one who had pointed it out to me. I had gotten a few calls from Irish Construction over the previous week asking to put a review here on Angie's List. I didn't really want to, because I wasn't very satisfied with the final work, and we finished all the scraping and sanding ourselves. My wife had called so that someone could come out and put the finish on the molding, but the morning the work was supposed to be done, I received a call from the secretary saying that they would have to reschedule because Tony was caught up with another job. I called the day after that to find out when we could reschedule, and was told to call Tonys cell phone. When I called him about it, and he realized that he would be coming out to my house for the third time, he got upset. I told him that I wasn't happy with the work, but all I wanted was to get the sand finish on the molding and be done with it. When he asked me about why I hadn't put a review on here I told him it was because we had to put in so much work ourselves to finish the job, that he wouldn't like the review. He then began YELLING at me, saying that he has over twenty years of experience in construction, and that I didn't know what I was talking about. He also said that he gave me a great deal, so I should be happy that so much work was done. I then said that I didn't think that the quality of the work was worth the $5000 we paid. We went back and forth for about 5 minutes, until he ended by saying that he would be there in a few days to finish the work, and then he hung up on me. At this point I was very upset, so I tried calling him back several times. After the third or fourth time I left a message saying that I didn't want him in my house, and that I would get another company to finish what he started. I also told him that he would finally get the honest review he was looking for. After I had time to cool off I called him back. I'm guessing Tony listened to the message and knew that he didn't want an honest review online, because he said he would have a couple guys out to put the finish on. A couple days later, Tony called me and said that his "best two guys" were coming to work on the molding, for the third time. By the time I got home from work it was late, so I didn't even look at it until the next morning. What I saw that morning was terrible. The sand finish wasn't even the same texture as the rest of the molding, and there were 1/2" deep gouges in the molding and ceiling. I was furious, but waited until I had time to cool off to call, so that I wouldn't just start yelling. When I called I got a hold of the secretary, who said that Tony was gone for Thanksgiving until the 4th of December, but that she would pass my message along when he returned. I knew that we wouldn't be doing any work over the holiday either, so I said that was fine. On the third of December, I called to make sure that the message was passed along. I was told to call Tonys cell because he had returned the previous night, but because of my busy schedule, I just asked if he could call me back and leave a message on when someone would be out to fix the molding for the fourth time. Today, on the Forth of December, 2013, I received the following email: Tony would like me to tell you that it will cost $450.00 per day to come back to your house to do work that was not in your contract. Tony did the job $3,000 cheaper than your other bids. As it stands he made very little profit from this job. Thanks,Margaret I replied, saying that the cove molding was in the contract, and that we wanted someone to come out again because the work was done so poorly, but that we will be using another company to finish the work. To sum it all up, Irish Construction has been to our house three times to fix their work, and wants $450/day to come out for a fourth time fix what should of been done the second trip out. The prep work that was done all over the house was terrible. The cleaning that was done after the work was also terrible. I would only ever hire them to do work that doesn't need any prep, and that is impossible to mess up. Tony, the owner, has no professionalism. Even after all the calls and pictures I have emailed him about the work, he has only ever been to our house once, on the day he gave us the quote. I joined and checked Angie's List and found Ferguson Roofing had a good rating. I was very happy they did work in Edwardsville. Blaine came out and gave an estimate within a day or two of my call. This was in mid December. The estimate seemed reasonable and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. We had him check out a couple other things and agreed to get them done as well. Initially we were told the job was small enough and it probably would be done before Christmas. In the end it waited until after the holiday. This was OK. Justin, who delegates the local jobs came by and verified our shingle color and looked over the work order that needed to be done. (I had called to see where we were in the job line up). Within a day we had two great guys on the roof. A father and son team. It took only 1 1/2 days to complete the work and we had rain the very next day. No leak. We have had a total of 8 inches since and all looks good so far. Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts
If you need help with your holiday decorating, the first step is determining your lighting and decor needs to narrow down your pro options. For example, if you want a custom outdoor light display with all of the bells and whistles, you’ll likely need to hire a local holiday light installer who specializes in that service. But if you only need to hang some lights inside in hard-to-reach places, consider hiring a handyperson or an interior decorator instead. It’s best to contact at least three different companies for quotes and to find out what services they offer.
In the Christmas days of yore, people braved winter weather to staple or tack their Christmas lights onto their rooftops or nearby surfaces like the fascia boards. Problems quickly emerged with that approach. Damage to the roof, even small marks from staples, provides entryways for moisture and similar issues that can hasten roof rot, wear, and associated leaks. Plus, some homes had tough fiber cement boards or other materials where staples and screws didn’t work.
Yes, you can hang Christmas lights from the soffit of your roof, but it requires a bit more effort than hanging from the gutters or eaves. You’ll need to add an adhesive hook or tie to the underside of the soffit to keep the lights in place. Consider adding a soffit hook every 12 to 18 inches for best visual results.
Aside from a professional light installation company, there are a few other pros who may be able to help you hang Christmas lights. Along with specialty holiday decorators, a handyperson near you can also hang Christmas lights (and can fix that pesky drippy sink while they’re at it). Either way, not all of these pros will offer the service, so be sure to call ahead and get multiple quotes before you hire.
The cost of professional Christmas light installation is $430 on average, but it can range from $100 for basic projectors to $1,200 or more for an extensive holiday light installation. The overall price also depends on the size of your home and any other location where you’ll be adding lighting. For instance, a small, one-story home typically costs between $250 and $600 for light installation, but a 4,000-foot multi-story home costs significantly more, ranging from $500 to $1,800.
