"Porterhouse Heating and Cooling was very professional and knowledgeable on the service provided. I used them to install my air conditioner unit. Eventhough, the unit was not my issue, they still came out and was able to find the issue and fix it. They were friendly, professional, and reasonably priced. I will definitely use again for any of my HVAC concerns."

"I replaced both of my forced-air furnaces and a/c units due to age (25 years) and efficiency. I also replaced two humidifiers and upgraded to wi-fi thermostats. I contacted TR Miller and another American Standard contractor to receive bids. Tim (the owner) came out and did a thorough job of accessing our situation and walking through his proposal. I contacted both contractors over the next 7-10 days to better understand competing proposals as well as negotiate the overall price. While both parties were close on price, Tim's level of responsiveness and demonstrating that he wanted the business made the difference.
We scheduled an install date for Nov 8th. His crew of five installers showed up on schedule (8am) and worked diligently through the day. They were all very professional and always willing to explain what they were doing if I had questions. Amazingly, the job took just under the 8 hours they estimated. Ben, the manager, provided a detailed walk through of all the work, how to care for the units, as well as things to watch for. Another installer explained how the wi-fi thermostats worked (which are awesome and highly recommended by the way). There was quite the mess from ripping out my old units and some of the duct work, however the crew cleaned up everything. After they left, it was as if they were never there.
Overall, I could not be happier with the process. Despite rather mediocre reviews on Angie's List, I can't say enough good things about my experience with TR Miller.

"AWE promptly responded to my work request and kept me informed about my appointment status. Peter came to perform the work. He was very thorough and even discovered that the HVAC contractor on our new home installed 2 furnaces: a current year model as well as a prior year model that was more prone to breakdowns. Provided great information and would definitely hire again. Thanks!"

"I talked to Nick who was good enough to send a technician out the very same day that I scheduled the service. The technician, Dan, was very prompt, thorough and friendly. He cleaned and sanitized 10+ vents, HVAC system, returns, supply lines, main line, and the dryer vent which was on the roof. A lot of Groupon deals that I looked around for have up-charges for the requirements that I had, particularly since I live in a 3rd floor walk-up in the city. With Lowe's the price that was quoted was the price that I got! I will definitely use their services again!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

HVAC pros recommend that you replace your AC filter every one to three months to maintain optimal indoor air quality and ensure your HVAC system operates efficiently. However, factors such as filter type, household size, and environmental conditions may influence the frequency of replacement. Regular filter changes help prevent debris buildup, maintain airflow, and prolong the life span of your air conditioning unit.

Some of the signs of HVAC issues include rising energy bills, rooms not cooling or heating properly, loud noises when in operation, and signs of condensation. To illustrate, if you’re wondering how to stop condensation on air vents, you’ll need to have your HVAC inspected.

Yes, you can clean AC coils yourself. Just make sure that the power to your AC system is off before you begin. You’ll need some basic tools and supplies, including a soft brush, cloth, screwdriver, and a commercial or homemade cleaning solution. Cleaning your coils will only cost about $10.

Condensation forms when warmer, outside air combines with cooler air in your ductwork. This can happen when there are leaks in your air ducts, your HVAC system has a dirty air filter, or there’s a lack of insulation around the ducts. To prevent it from happening, replace your HVAC filters as directed. Also, once every five years, hire a local air duct cleaner to clean and inspect them.

The best time of year to purchase or replace an HVAC system, including components like an air conditioner or furnace, is during the off-season—spring and fall. During these periods, HVAC professionals are less busy than in summer and winter, when extreme temperatures create urgent demand. Shopping during the off-season can lead to savings of 10% to 15% on an AC unit and allows you more time to find the best deal and other cost-saving incentives. Typically, air conditioning units go on sale in the fall after demand drops, while furnace prices tend to decrease in the spring.
