"I don't have a ladder to reach my second story gutters, and dirt had built up in them to the point of weeds beginning to grow in them.  I had been delaying this project, but saw Lake View's truck drive by yesterday (with "GUTTER CLEANING") written on the side and decided to give them a call.
I spoke to someone in their office at about 8:00 a.m. and was told that for a two story house, gutter cleaning would cost $120, not including a $15 discount for first time customers.  So I provided my address and was told they'd finish the job "today or tomorrow."
Sure enough, by the time I was home from work that day, the job was completed and an invoice was in my door.

"I worked initially with Mike B at the Naperville showroom and looked at several models of windows.
A few days later, Mike G came to the house to take measurements and provided an initial estimate.
I went back to the showroom to take a closer look at the models and asked a few more questions.
I scheduled an meeting with Mike G to change a few items on the estimate and provided the downpayment.
I was contacted about a month later to bring in (to the Burr Ridge main office) the paint our townhome association requires on exterior trim.
A little over a week later I was contacted to schedule the installation date.
The installation was subcontracted to MVR Construction Group Inc (possibly because of the glass block windows not being one of Next's normally installed items).
The installation took 3 days and involved removal of the 40+ year old windows/doors, full frame replacement, updated insulation, and replacement wood trim to meet association specifications. (No metal trim allowed)
Neighbors who observed the installation process commented about the thoroughness of the installation process and the cleanup that was done every day.

"Our first phone call to the company was very encouraging.  They explained that replacing glass was their specialty and that we would be working with the owner of the firm.  They came to our house to make some preliminary measurements and to explain the replacement process.  During that first visit they recommended using a particular glass and left us with a website reference on the glass.  After reviewing information on the web, we emailed the company with some concerns.  They immediately emailed back an alternative glass for us to consider. They  scheduled a second visit bringing with them a sample of the alternative.  Having a sample was very helpful.  They also provided a website reference for the alternative.  We selected the alternative.
Installation of the glass took one day and went smoothly.  The installers were professional, hard working, and considerate of our house and of our particular needs.

"The estimator examined the basement walls and identified four cracks through which water might be coming in and gave a quote.  We agreed to have the work done.  One service man came and filled the cracks in less than the estimated time.  The work involved surface patching the cracks on the inside of the wall, drilling approximately six holes through each crack and injecting a sealant into each crack.  Since we haven't had a hard rain since then, we haven't had a real test of whether it holds water out.

"For the past 3 weeks I have had 1 window per week broken in my condo building by neighborhood troublemakers.  Each time I called Steve at Busy Bee in the middle of the night and he sent his workers out to board up the broken windows.  They arrived every time within 1 hour of my call.  Always very professional and competent in their work, they did some little extras like sweeping up small pieces of glass from the sidewalk before leaving.  I hope I won't have to keep having windows boarded up, but if I do, I am confident that Busy Bee will be there to protect the security of my home.

"

Estimator came right away and I didn't need to be home - everything was laid out in estimate!  Estimator also noticed how a previous small job had been done incorrectly. There is never answering machine and you always talk to a person.  We had a lot of water issues and have none now.  They matched our mortar and did a great job. Looks excellent.

I called this spring about an issue and was immediately called back by the foreman who was on our job.  Issue resolved immediately.

Would recommend Arrow to all.

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

New glass costs anywhere from $3 to $100 per square foot. More specifically, tempered and insulated glass—a common option for sliding glass doors—costs between $10 and $14 per square foot.

Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.

Glass block mortar is the best choice for glass block window units. It is specifically formulated for glass block window installation. Glass block mortar is usually a mixture of Portland cement, sand, and special chemicals. It is a white mortar that is applicable inside and outside your home. Do not use regular tile mortar because it may not have the binding strength and flexibility required for glass block windows.

Installing glass block windows has benefits and disadvantages, as with most materials. The pros and cons can vary depending on the type of glass block and the window location.

Pros

  • Maintains privacy while letting light into the bathroom

  • Energy efficient

  • Sealed to prevent drafts

  • Aesthetically pleasing

  • Strong and secure

Cons

  • Costly to install

  • Challenging installation

  • Challenging repair

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.
