"About average. Some shoddy work that had to be corrected, but all in all ok. Could not get them to respond to a tub repair. Mike and staff kept putting it off and then would not return a call. After about 2 years, I contacted the tub people and the technical people sent me the part and told me how to install the heater and pump. I ended up hiring someone to take out the tile to get to the parts that needed repair. I still have not grouted the tile back in as am waiting to see if it works properly. All in all, we were marginally satisfied with the job, but follow up service did not exist. The promises and dodging of phone calls got old. I finally gave up."

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel questions, answered by experts

The shower base is below the pan, while the pan is the floor of the shower that you stand on. Shower bases are the substructure, and similar to the pan, they have a slight angle to allow the water to flow into the drain. It’s an important part of the shower, but you can’t see it.

The average price of a bathroom remodel is around $11,500, and prices usually fall between $6,500 and $29,000. Some factors that affect your project cost include the type and size of the bathroom, the extent of the renovation, the quality of the materials, whether or not you’re moving or adding fixtures, and the cost of renovation permits in your area. Small half-baths usually cost between $1,500 and $15,000 to remodel, while larger, primary bathrooms can total between $7,000 and $30,000.

When deciding what to renovate first when remodeling a house on a budget, think about your home’s most pressing need. If you have an old kitchen that isn’t functional, you may want to start there. If you need extra living space for your growing family immediately, consider remodeling the basement first. Learning how to prioritize home improvement projects can help you stick to your budget while making improvements that give you the biggest immediate benefit.

It’s possible to convert a bathroom into a wet room, but it often requires extensive renovations. You’d likely need to remove the floors to install drainage and a new floor over that, remove drywall outside the shower area, and replace it with cement backer board covered in a waterproofing material. You’d also need to remove the existing shower, waterproof the walls, and install fixtures to create a more open, curbless shower space.

All bathtub materials have advantages and disadvantages. Cast iron is the most durable option, but these heavy tubs are expensive and not always suitable for bathtubs on upper floors. Acrylic is a good option for those on a budget. However, copper has many unique benefits if you want something that wows and requires minimal maintenance.
