"10/10. Incredible quality and turnaround time. Michael from AAA Arborist came for an estimate the same day of contact and got the job done the next morning. We just moved to a new home and discovered an undisclosed squirrel next in our attic. Pest control identified the trees as the main thoroughfare of the squirrels. Michael recognized our emergency and took immediate action. There's a different tree company well reviewed in Angie's List that I wasted 2 weeks on prior and would avoid. I called Rivera 3-5 times. left VMs. Spoke w/ admin. They didn't provide me with the estimate as promised, until i followed up 1-2 times. Then when it finally came to schedule, they were a week out. I was never given an opportunity to speak with the estimator. If you're like me and looking up a tree trimmer on Angie's list, just call AAA Arborist 1st."

"I am very impressed with this company, from their responsiveness to their excellent standard of work. Mr. Martinez quickly responded to my voicemail and we set up a time the next day to meet at my house to review the work. He arrive promptly and was able to quickly assess the work and give me a ballpark cost. Although I am not an arborist, I work with municipal tree crews and I have a decent understanding of basic tree work. Mr. Martinez is a certified arborist, which means that he’s passed the rigorous training and testing required to achieve this professional certification. I was very impressed with his quick grasp of my general needs and his ability to discuss the pros and cons and recommend the best approach to the work. He sent me a proposal for the work later the same day. The cost was very reasonable, slightly less than his ballpark estimate (and considerably less than that quoted by several large, high-profile regional tree companies), so I was happy to sign the proposal and set up a time the following week to have the work done. His crew (of 4 men) arrived promptly at the scheduled time and reviewed the scope with me. I was very happy to see that they used all recommended safety equipment (helmets, ear and eye protection, climbing saddles, tie-off ropes, etc.). They performed the work quickly but always using proper equipment and techniques (undercutting limbs to reduce tearing at the trunk, etc.), cleaning up as they went. They also kept an eye on the alley, which they were blocking with their truck and other equipment; several times they cheerfully and quickly moved their vehicles so my neighbors could exit their garages without any waiting. Once the majority of the work was complete, they reviewed it with me, and did a bit more additional pruning at my request. When the tree work was complete, they did a great job of cleaning up all the debris, including blowing the sawdust off my walkways and patio; they also cleaned up debris and sawdust from my neighbor’s yard, as much of the work involved removing branches overhanging my neighbor’s property. This is was a great experience; I would highly recommend Progressive Tree Services to anyone needing tree work!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

It depends on the type of tree. Typically, late spring on the cusp of winter is ideal for trees about to emerge from dormancy and produce new buds. That said, late fall is ideal for certain deciduous trees prone to bleeding sap. Avoid trimming trees in early spring, when they’re prone to disease.

Dead tree branches should be removed, because they can cause the tree to lose nutrients. They can also make the tree more susceptible to disease and pests. Removing dead and diseased branches can help the tree recover and increase the odds of saving a dying tree. Make sure to prune the tree correctly to avoid damaging it further.

Many consider the Fraser fir to be the most popular type of Christmas tree, but which type of tree sells out near you can depend on region and decorating trends that year. For example, the Leyland cypress is especially popular in the Southeast, according to the National Christmas Tree Association.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.

Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. But if mature tree roots start growing in the direction of your home’s foundation or plumbing system, it could be a real problem. Cutting small tree roots out before they grow too large can keep your home safe without removing the whole tree.
