"Salvador and his crew did excellent work in finishing our basement. They installed a beautiful wet bar, cabinets, a full kitchenette, can LED lighting, tiled floor, bathroom and shower. Their dry wall and painting is superb. The luxury vinyl planking floor throughout looks marvelous along with the white base board and trim. Structural, Framing, Plumbing, Electrical, and HVAC was all done to code. They took their time and paid attention to all the details as they take great pride in their work. HQP price was fair and reasonable. They also stand behind their work. We are very pleased with our finished basement and I would highly recommend Salvador and his company."

Small jobs welcome

"Jerry remodeled my basement last year before I sold my house. Also painted living room and dining room and replaced light fixture. He and his partner were courteous, hard-working and neat. They did a great job. My house sold in 3 days-I think partly because of the good work Jerry did."

"We asked Nick Biango to finish our basement based on his excellent communication, longstanding team and reasonable pricing. Nick has expert craftsmanship and good taste; it was wonderful to see how vague ideas (ie, some paneling would be great here) were translated to a cohesive whole. The custom bookshelf/bench unit that Nick built for us is a joy - thoughtful, well designed, with solid construction - and his experience makes it easy to rely on him on details big and small. More specifically, we appreciated that his crew kept the place immaculate and were professional. Every person that we met took pride in their work. The team had great suggestions when asked for recommendations on products, colors, and style. And most important, Nick was responsive though out the build to questions about scheduling/products and places for improvement. I have to say that the greatest part of this collaboration has been peace of mind. We're very happy with the end product, and will be sticking with Nick for future builds!"

"For an ~ 20 years old, 3 level deck, which is for a 12 unit owner occupied condo building, the first level stringer anchors failed. Tim (project manager) was very responsive and informative in helping to come up with the most economical solution to repair the first level, in addition to taking care of the basement and second level stairs to prevent a similar failure from happening until the entire deck is replaced. Slightly more expensive than other estimates received, but the responsiveness to questions, customer service, and quality of work / clean-up far outways this slight increase in cost. Very pleased with the overall experience and would definitely have them do similar work in the future."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

To determine if your basement walls are suitable for finishing, assess their structural integrity and moisture conditions. Look for any signs of damage, such as cracks, bowing, or excessive moisture. Ensure proper drainage and address any underlying issues before proceeding.

Consult with a professional if you're uncertain about the structural stability or potential risks associated with finishing your basement walls.

Unless you have extensive experience in construction work, remodeling a basement is best left to a professional. There are several tasks associated with this project that require exact precision, including:

  • Replacing insulation

  • Replacing carpet or other flooring

  • Adding heating and cooling

  • Adjusting or adding walls and doors

  • Altering or adding plumbing elements

If any of these elements is done incorrectly, it could severely impact the quality of your basement remodel and be dangerous. Changing a basement often comes with code safety requirements, like egress windows and proper ventilation. Therefore, leaving it up to a professional is often the best decision.

Renovation enhances functionality, increases home value, and can add new space for personal or family needs. It typically modernizes older unfinished basements for new uses.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

Yes, you can add a bathroom to an unfinished basement, but you’ll want to take proper precautions if doing so. As with any bathroom addition, you’ll need to make sure that it’s approved by local building authorities first. With unfinished basements, you especially need to keep an eye on proper ventilation practices.
