"Called in the afternoon to report a sulfur problem, had Josh come out that evening and he was very prepared, professional, and friendly. Demonstrated great expertise and workmanship. Had a new softener and iron filter installed within an hour of him arriving. No more sulfur smell. I will definitely be hiring Affordable Water in the future."

Designer & Metal Artist Del Shearrow creates one of a kind works that are truly unique. Some of his influences and favorites would be Pablo Picasso, Wilfrid Zogbaum, Anthony Caro and Bruce Beasely. His hand-bent originals are Modernistic Abstract forms that sometimes seem to have an organic flow that, at times, has blended with function and purity through his art-form and the results are extraordinary. Del’s informal study, self-teaching and experimenting started in 2001. His years of designing, crafting and being passionate about “form” and how shapes can work together exciting the senses is what makes his work sought after. His work is represented in the downtown Chicago Art District at Vale Craft Gallery, a SOFA sponsor. His work can be seen throughout Chicagoland, Galena Territory, Madison, Washington DC, Baltimore & the Midwest.

Hello, Well I am 40 years old and been in business about 10 years. Before that I worked for 3 differant builders then went on my own. I am pretty much willing to try anything and hate when I have to sub-contract anything out. I have built several homes from ground to roof and everything between. I am not the cheepest and far from the most expensive but we treat all of our customers like friends and we do our job!!!

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

You can install a water softener system by turning off the water supply, draining the water, and then connecting your device to the waterline. Next, you’ll fill your tank with the recommended amount of salt or brine (whichever your unit calls for; be sure to read the instructions). Turn the water supply on and check for leaks. You can opt to let your water run for a few minutes, then test it using strips.

The process of inspecting your water softener system is similar.

The most accurate way to determine whether you have hard water is to purchase a water test kit from a hardware store or send a tap water sample to a lab. But there are some signs you can look out for without professional testing. For instance, if you're consistently dealing with mineral stains on your glassware, windows, and shower doors, you're likely to have hard water. Hard water can also make it harder to lather and rinse soap, so if you're struggling to work up a good lather in the shower, hard water might be the culprit.

Water softeners are worth the money if you live in an area with hard water. Hard water is safe to drink, but it poses serious threats to your plumbing system. The minerals in hard water will gradually build up on the inside walls of your pipes, reducing water flow to your fixtures. The minerals can also gradually corrode your plumbing system, reduce its lifespan, and increase the risk of leaks. Hard water also makes soap and detergent less effective. Water softener systems can solve all these issues, making them a great investment.

It’s unlikely that hard water on its own could cause substantial hair loss or damage, though it’s true that bathing in hard water can cause your scalp to feel itchy or flaky and might dull your hair’s natural shine. Using high-quality shampoo and conditioner or buying a whole-home water softener can decrease these issues.

Yes, it’s fine to drink softened water. However, if you follow a low-sodium diet or have high blood pressure or sodium-related health concerns, make sure to speak with your doctor beforehand. If they advise against drinking water that’s been softened with sodium, you might be able to use potassium in your water softener instead.
