"Carlos and his crew paid tremendous attention to detail, meticulously preparing the house for paint and professionally working to complete the project in a thorough and timely way. Carlos provided oversight at every step and worked hard to make sure our communication was good as we had very specific ideas about how our 4-color scheme was carried out. As the project approached completion, Carlos made several circuits of the house with me to make certain that every last detail was addressed. I would definitely retain Carlos again and encourage others to engage him when planning future projects."

"The work was performed to my satisfaction - it was meticulously done and I felt that they did not rush the job. They came on at least 3 occasions to put the layers of stain and the final polyurethane coat. They even found that the top of my front door wood trim had never ben stained and they offered to stain it for free. They are courteous, professional and clean up their tools and supplies before they leave for the day. Highly recommend this painter."

"We engaged CertaPro Painters of Elmhurst to stain our cedar wood paneling on our house and garage. The crew (David and Andy) worked diligently and the project was completed quickly with a high level of quality. The crew also went the extra mile and nailed in some boards which had come loose, patched an area where the wood had cracked and even filled in some holes left by woodpeckers. The estimate we received was both spot-on and reasonable. We couldn't have been happier with the result. Our home went from looking tired and old to fresh and inviting in just three days' time. The change in appearance was so dramatic that it felt like we had moved into a new house. - Thanks again for all your hard work guys. We appreciated it!"

"Saul was on time and went immediately to work. I was extremely impressed by his professionalism. He and his assistant did not miss a thing, from cleaning up the cobwebs up high I couldn't reach, to covering every square inch for flooring beneath the paint areas to sanding and prepping the walls before painting. I do not think I could give a higher rating to this company, they are truly the best of the best!"

Small jobs welcome

"Initially, I hired them to power wash and paint a small section of a rather large deck. However, when I saw how professional they were, and how well it was turning out, I added to my scope of work and had them do two decks and repair outside structures. It took them three days to complete the work, but no shortcuts were taken. They moved furniture deck furniture and replaced it. I am beyond pleased"

"This is the second time we’ve used steadfast, they painted our deck summer 2018. If you are looking for a painting company that will do a perfect job that will last, hire steadfast. I was so happy with how our deck held up over the winter, I decided to have them paint the outside of our house. Anthony is so terrific to work with and all of his employees are polite and do a great job. My neighbor was so impressed by the work that they did, how nice the employees got along and talked to each other, she hired them to paint the outside of her house too!"

"I had rainwater coming in through a door and window frame. Dario and Juan knew right away that the problem was coming from where my deck meets the siding. They removed deck boards to discover a gap in the siding. Checked for water damage (thankfully no damage). Sealed the gap. I have not had any rainwater issues since. Price was totally reasonable. We discussed other future repairs/projects for my home and I look forward to working with them again."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.

It’s necessary for paint to completely dry before exposure to rain, and that drying time varies by the type of paint used. Oil-based paint takes 6 to 8 hours to dry on average, meaning that’s the minimum time needed between the last brush stroke and the first raindrop. Latex paint dries faster at around 1 hour, and acrylic paint is even quicker, usually drying in about 30 minutes. If rain is in the forecast, check the paint manufacturer's details before laying on a new coat.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Deciding whether to stain or paint a pool deck depends on your budget, desired look, and the deck's material. Both options can work. Paint offers a wider variety of color options, provides excellent water resistance, and can last longer. However, it requires a primer and can eventually fade or peel. Stain is often cheaper, easier to apply, and penetrates the wood for a more natural look and longer-lasting finish. It also has great water resistance. The downsides are fewer color options and the need for a sealant. The choice can also depend on the deck material; for example, staining may be a better option for concrete as it bonds well and lasts longer than paint.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.
