"Highly Recommend Springsoft! I was scheduled for an appointment to repair my water softener with Springsoft. Al, the rep for the company called me to verify that a service tech was needed. He coached me through a couple of practical steps to try on my own. The issue was resolved. No charge! What company does this? Amazing. Thanks Al. How generous."

"Our water stopped completely. These guys were on the scene right away, and quickly and professionally diagnose the issue. They replaced the pump and we had water again in a few hours. The family has been in the well business for generations. This is a call you never want to make, but if you need to make it I would call these guys."

"I was impressed by their quick response to my emergency call. The project was more serious than I or they anticipated, but it was clear they knew what they were doing and performed the work within 24 hours. Pretty big expense, but they worked their butts off, solved the problems, and cleaned up afterwards. Nice people, too!"

"The first time Dan was here our laundry room was flooded. He came almost at midnight. He found the problem in the main line and stopped the water from coming in the laundry room. Dan also did the plumbing work when we got the tub out to install a shower and remodel the bathroom. He was very professional and cleaned after the job. So good that we asked him to install a farmer sink in the kitchen and do a jetting on the line. Again, a very professional job. We wont hesitate to ask him to do any plumbing work in our house."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Drinking hard water is not known to have any negative health impacts. Using hard water can lead to dry skin and hair, and the minerals in hard water can build up in pipes, faucets, and appliances. Hard water is more of a threat to your plumbing than it is to your health.

You should not use a water conditioner with a water softener because a water conditioner changes the chemistry of the water and causes the ion exchange in a softener to be ineffective. Choose a water softener if you have hard water or well water, and use a water conditioner if you need to remove certain contaminants.

Most experts agree there’s not much difference health-wise between hard water versus soft water. That said, hard water is more likely to cause skin dryness and issues that go along with it, like an itchy or flaky scalp. Hard water can also decrease the life span of your household appliances and make it more difficult for soap to do its job.

The most accurate way to determine whether you have hard water is to purchase a water test kit from a hardware store or send a tap water sample to a lab. But there are some signs you can look out for without professional testing. For instance, if you're consistently dealing with mineral stains on your glassware, windows, and shower doors, you're likely to have hard water. Hard water can also make it harder to lather and rinse soap, so if you're struggling to work up a good lather in the shower, hard water might be the culprit.

The primary difference between a water softener and a water filter lies in what they remove from the water. A water softener is designed to remove hard minerals like calcium and magnesium. In contrast, a water filter has a broader effect, removing various contaminants above a certain size, which can include bacteria and other impurities.

To decide which you need, consider your goal. If you want to eliminate hard minerals, choose a softener. If you want to remove a wide range of contaminants, a filter is the better option. Filters are also generally less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply, you may need to install both for comprehensive treatment.
