"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

"Jeremy and Michelle have been incredible to work with. First and foremost, they are just genuinely good and trustworthy people. They have guided us through the build process and made things so easy. Michelle has a great eye for design and aesthetics and has been an indispensable resource in helping us make design decisions. Jeremy is able to effectively bring his building experience to bear to explain various concepts and concerns about how the house is to be built. He has been so patient with us and our tendency to add last-minute changes (I know, weâ re that kind of homeowners; donâ t be like us in that way). In analyzing and responding to our â great ideas,â he has consistently focused on finding the best way to make our design dreams a reality, while also clearly explaining the pros, cons, and costs of our available options. Beyond Jeremy and Michelle, their framing crew has been a pleasure to interact with; they are good-natured honest guys who have never complained about having to make our requested changes and have been willing to put in later days to get things done. Jeremy and Michelle have good relationships with a lot of subcontractors in the area, and every sub theyâ ve recommended has been great to work with as well. While we havenâ t finished construction yet, I can say that it has progressed faster than expected (even with our changes), and has been on budget. We look forward to completing this project and working with them again in the future."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Basements are commonly converted into game rooms. The potential challenges you may run into include controlling moisture, working with low ceilings, limited natural light, and the need for additional electrical or HVAC work. Addressing these issues can add to the total cost, but it ensures a comfortable and functional space.

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment. A reasonable deposit is typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost, although this can vary by project size and location. This upfront payment helps the contractor cover initial costs like materials, permits, licensing, and hiring subcontractors. The remaining balance is usually billed according to a schedule outlined in your contract, often tied to project milestones or completion dates. Be cautious of contractors who ask for a large deposit of 50% or more, as this could be a red flag for a scam.

Home improvements that increase value offer a high return on investment (ROI) and can enhance your quality of life. Upgrades to your home’s curb appeal often add the most value, with garage door replacement having one of the best ROIs at 93%. Other high-value exterior projects include replacing your front door, upgrading siding and roofing, installing a stone veneer, adding new windows, and landscaping. For interior renovations, a fresh coat of paint provides an excellent ROI. Major projects like a kitchen remodel or upgrading appliances and HVAC systems also add significant value, as potential buyers appreciate the peace of mind that new equipment provides.

Building a bar in the basement will likely add value to your home, although it’s unlikely that you’ll see a significant return on investment (ROI) unless you plan on using the space for you and your guests. If you think you’ll use the area frequently, though, it’s probably worth the investment, and you should see a bump in value if or when you sell your property.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.
