"My experience with this business is top notch. I can't say enough good points about Idaho Fireplace and Chimney! He saved me! My only heat source in my home is my wood stove. I was told by another fireplace company in Boise that I couldn't install a new wood stove, it wasn't possible to replace my existing wood stove (pretty sure they didn't want to do the work and just sell me a pellet stove). Richie made it happen. I got a new stove and new liner and for a reasonable price. It was probably more work than he realized, but he was gracious and polite and professional. He made happen what SEVEN other companies said they would not or could not do. Thank you so much! I'm so happy and I want your business to thrive and I know it is...because you are the best in the Valley! Hire them today for an inspection/cleaning. Had I hired them years ago to inspect or clean my stove, I probably would have found out sooner the problem I had and not wasted a bunch of time on other companies."

"We have Frontpoint at two houses. We had been looking for ways to cut our monthly expenses (Frontpoint is approx. $100 per month total), so I called them to find out what I could do. They informed me that I was under contract for another year, and that I cannot get out of the contract without an early termination fee that is equal to the cost of the service. I'm a little disappointed, because the upfront cost of the system was very expensive ($1,000+) for each house, so it seems odd that I would get sucked into this contract. Nevertheless, I forgot that I signed up for this with them. My calendar is marked for the day that my service ends, and I will be switching to a company that charges about half of what they do. They have OK customer service and are very responsive, but the wireless system had some issues with reception in my house due to a fireplace, and then they didn't want to work with me to get that resolved. They're OK, but I can't really recommend them."

"I just bought a new (old) home in Nampa. I had a homeowner's inspection done and they told me I needed to call a roofer and have some flashing replaced around my fireplace outlet. I called Treasure Valley Exteriors. Kelly was extremely professional and friendly in all her correspondence and the set up of the appointment. Max arrived on time and was extremely geniune, professional and friendly. Max could have taken advantage of the fact that I was expecting to have major roof repairs needed. Instead Max told me that the problems that were there were really with the fireplace outlet, not the actual roof and should be fixed by a masonry/fireplace builder. He told me my main roof would last me another 5 to 6 years. I couldn't believe it ,as I had spent all my money just buying the place and didn't know how I was going to afford this new roof. I will definitely be calling Treasure Valley Exteriors when it's time for my new roof. It's refreshing to know there are honest individuals out there. Thank you Treasure Valley Exteriors!

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Pellet stoves are safer than wood stoves in many ways. They don’t produce as many creosote deposits as wood stoves do, they create less smoke, and the flames are contained, decreasing the risk of any sparks or embers creating a house fire. Pellet stoves also burn more cleanly and efficiently than wood stoves do.

No, you should never leave a fireplace burning overnight or unattended during the day. While fireplaces are made to contain fires, fires can and do spread from fireplaces, so it’s crucial that you’re there to monitor them and put them out if needed. If you’re worried about putting out a fire before bed, stop feeding it fuel long before bedtime and actively put out the fire using your poker, a shovel, and some baking soda.

The project could take anywhere from one to five das, depending on the extent of the removal. Capping a gas line can be done on the same day, whereas completely removing a fireplace and chimney can span several weeks. Talk to your pro about the timeline and potential obstacles, like fireplace material, location, and potential structural issues.

Avoid using abrasive cleansing powders on natural stone, as these products could damage the porous material. Using bleach is also a poor idea because of the porosity of the stone. Avoid using a scrub brush with metal bristles, as they could scratch the stone. If you know who manufactured your stone or who installed the fireplace, you may want to contact that entity for any advice on cleaning it safely.

Cleaning your own chimney can be risky, especially if it hasn't been done in a long time and you lack the proper tools, knowledge, and safety equipment. The process involves getting onto the roof and handling soot, which poses safety issues. Remember, inhaling chimney soot is a significant health risk. Wearing the proper respiratory equipment is required.
