"Jose was fantastic in fixing up some water damaged siding. He was upfront and honest about the work needed done and pricing. I'm military stationed in Florida and need work done on my rental property in idaho and his communication and patience was amazing. He sent picture along the way and explained everything he was doing nit just to me, but my tenants. He was mindful of my tenants schedule and worked to accommodate. I was never blindsided with hidden costs, which was a relief when we found more damaged under the siding (pics of everything was sent) I was expecting a huge bill from what was quoted for a few boards to be replaced. I was more than comfortable and happy with the final price. The repairs looks great, tenants are happy, insurance is happy, and I have a warranty. I would recommend Jose at Boise window medics any day!!"

"Part of my fence blew down in a wind storm and no one would help me until spring. I have a very skittish dog and was afraid she would get out. I called Align and Clint came out to look at it, gave me a quote, and in just a couple weeks got it fixed for me. I am so grateful and it looks fantastic!"

"We had a great experience with Treasure Valley Exteriors.Max came to our home and gave us a quote. He was professional and accommodating. We ordered the windows. They arrived on time. They started the work when the said they would. Brandon who installed the windows did a great job. His attention to detail was really impressive. He did a great job on the install. He left no mess. I have extensively remodeled two of my personal houses and Treasure Valley Exteriors is one of the best companies I have used. I have very high standards and it can be hard to find good tradesman. I would recommend Max and Treasure Valley Exteriors. We will be having siding installed down the line and we will be using Treasure Valley Exteriors again. "

"Everything was fast and professional, wood siding looks exactly like I wanted to, professionals was asking properly about how I want it to look, and also giving me advice how can I make it cheaper and more beautiful, feels like they was doing it for themselves, not for a client, I will go to them again, if I need one more siding"

"Charlie a very skilled contractor. While we hired him for siding repair, there was much more extensive damage to the interior of the wall. Charlie had the knowledge and equipment to rebuild the floor, framing and then completed the siding as originally planned. And Charlie did great quality work at each step of the project. He guarantees his work and we have confidence that that wall is in great shape now after Charlie work."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Siding colors that go well with a green roof include off-red, beige, white, gray, brown, and even another green. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your green roof. This roof color has character, and playing with your color palette can really add to the natural charm of the house.

Wood clapboard siding needs frequent sealing to keep it in top condition—likely every two to three years. A sealant helps protect it from both moisture and sunlight damage. Your weather and climate will affect how often you need to seal the siding, but the pros recommend sealing it every couple of years. More durable woods in milder climates may not need to be sealed quite as often.

Not wrapping a house before installing siding can lead to moisture intrusion, rot, mold, and even higher energy bills. Older houses may have siding installed without wrap underneath, so it’s a good idea to add a wrap layer when it comes time to replace old siding to prevent potential damage from water intrusion—local codes may even require it, so check with your municipal building authority.

Composite siding is very resistant to warping that can affect some other sidings. Because of its composition, this siding doesn’t have the same risks of moisture damage that can cause rotting, buckling, and warping. Composite material doesn’t warp in high temperatures the way some kinds of vinyl siding can.

That said, composite siding is not entirely immune from moisture damage. It should still be properly installed so that moisture can properly drain from behind the siding, and protected by eaves and clean gutter so the siding doesn’t get repeatedly soaked by rain, which could lead to damage.

You should plan to stain or refinish your home's cedar siding every three to seven years to maintain its appearance and provide maximum protection, though some estimates suggest a range of four to six years. The exact frequency depends on several factors, including your local climate, exposure to severe weather like direct sunlight, rain, and wind, the quality of the initial stain application, the type of stain used, and the overall condition and quality of the wood.

For homes in harsh climates with high humidity and significant sun exposure, you should plan on staining as often as every three years, while those in milder locations may only need to do so every seven years. For the longest-lasting protection in particularly harsh climates, consider using an opaque stain.

If you are looking for a lower-maintenance alternative, you might consider vinyl or aluminum siding. While the initial installation cost can be higher, they do not require as much upkeep and can offer more value over time, especially in areas with excessive rainfall or high humidity.
