"I had Bath Planet convert my bathtub/shower into a walk-in shower. It went great - from the salesman, James Allbee, to the time frame of the job being performed after the sale to the date completed (3 weeks); and the most praise goes to the installer, AJ (last name unknown), the man who did all of the hard work. He did it alone and in one day. He did an amazing job. He arrived first thing, a little after 8, and was done by 5:30 p.m. I did provide for him, my garage so that he had a place to work and cut material, etc. He had his own heater and work table in there and could close the garage if he needed or wanted. He first removed my glass sliding doors, then removed the shower walls, removed the dry wall so that the 2x4's and insulation were exposed to be able to get to the pipes and plumbing, and then replace all of that, including the drain all the way down to the main cast iron pipe or stack in the basement. He next broke up the porcelain covered cast iron bathtub with a rubber sledgehammer - removed all of the debris and hauled that stuff out in trash bags or carried out the large pieces and put in his work van. He then put in new wood or greenboard I believe it is called for the new walls and put a section on the floor where the tub used to be, before placing in the new basin. AJ also extended the pipe for the shower head so that it now is higher than it was, which was much appreciated and I didn't even have to request he do that but I love that it is up higher now. He next put up the lovely madeira granite acrylic that extends all the way up to my ceiling. He installed all the fixtures that I purchased as I showed him where I wanted the shelves and safety bars installed. He then installed the tall glass shower sliding doors and did the final things such as putting the silicone sealant where it needed to be applied. He cleaned up after himself. I am so pleased and absolutely LOVE my new shower. I feel like I am showering in a fancy hotel."

"My experience with Roto Rooter was first rate. I posted my problem on HomeAdvisor and they contacted me promptly and gave me a couple options - repair or replacement of my water heater. I chose to replace it and Jim was able to locate a good replacement for me and get me scheduled the next day. The Plumbers arrived promptly and had my water heater replaced in about an hour. Even cleaned up well. Thanks Roto-Rooter."

"We are pleased with our bath remodel that included a new tub, tub surround and wainscot walls. There was one small problem with the walls due to the ceiling and walls not being plumb however they did go above and beyond by doing more than was was agreed upon by making plumbing improvements, installing a new lighted medicine cabinet and repairing a light fixture. They were very courteous and the installer even made a suggestion for a change that we agreed would be better."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

You should flush your water heater at least once a year, with some experts recommending a schedule of every six to 12 months (e.g., once in the spring and fall). The ideal frequency depends on several factors.

If your area has hard water with high mineral concentrations, you should flush the heater more often—typically every four to six months. Additionally, a water heater that is used frequently may require more frequent flushing than one that is used less often.

Regular flushing is important because it removes sediment buildup from the bottom of the tank. This maintenance helps improve the heater's efficiency, extend its lifespan, and prevent issues like clogs, overheating, and increased energy consumption. You can either learn to perform this task yourself or arrange for a service plan with a professional plumber.

If the outside temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, it will take around six hours for your pipes to freeze—and they might even burst. That’s why keeping your mobile home’s temperature around 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit is necessary, even if you’re leaving it vacant for the winter. In addition, having ample skirting around the mobile home's underbelly will help keep pipes insulated during the winter.

Yes, frozen pipes can prevent a toilet from working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which means your toilet tank won't be able to refill after a flush. This will prevent the toilet from flushing again. Depending on which lines are frozen, the ice can also block the drain pipe, preventing water from flushing away.

As a temporary workaround, you can manually add water to the tank for each flush. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try filling the toilet bowl or tank with warm water and flushing to help thaw the ice. However, the best long-term solution is to unfreeze the pipes to get your toilet back in working order.

The P-trap (or S-trap in older homes) under your shower is designed to prevent sewer gas from coming back up, so you shouldn’t normally experience foul odors coming from your shower drain. If you do, the vent stack that introduces air into your plumbing system may be clogged, or you may have a more severe sewer main blockage. In either case, hire a plumber to fix the issue for you.

The best types of piping for underground main water lines are PVC and PEX pipes because of their ability to be buried and withstand high levels of water pressure. PVC and PEX pipes are resistant to rusting and corrosion, which makes them ideal for transporting water. Copper is another efficient type of pipe for underground water lines because of their resistance to rusting and leakage. Again, copper pipes are on the higher end of the price range.
