They must post their own positive reviews. They took my $65.00 fee and did nothing"

Yes, you need to thoroughly clean the deck surface before staining your deck. Dirt, debris, and mildew can settle on the surface of your wood. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.

Eggshell and satin finishes are best for porches because they sit in the sweet spot between scuffable matte and distracting high gloss. Your porch sees a fair amount of wear and tear, so you don’t want paint that’ll show every mark like matte, but you don’t want to be blinded by glossy paint in the sun either. Eggshell and satin have durability and a look that sits nicely in the middle.

You can paint a deck with either a roller or a brush, but rollers are more common because they’re faster. There are benefits to using a brush, though. Brushes offer more control than rollers, so it’s a worthwhile route if you don’t mind spending more time on the job. The fastest way to paint a deck is with a sprayer, but they’re more expensive than rollers and brushes and more likely to result in an uneven coat.
