I have been in the plastering for 33 years. Due to the number of inappropriate leads as of 10/8/23 there is a nominal 10 dollar consulting fee. We can handle everything from new homes to complete room guts/renovations as well as small patches. We do it all when it comes to your walls and ceiling utilizing Kal-kote / two coat plaster or one coat plaster systems. We also repair /install plaster moldings. DRYWALL is general term and includes sheet rock, blue board, green board and more. WE DO NOT DO SMOOTH JOINT COMPOUND ON SHEETROCK HOWEVER, WE CAN BOND AND PLASTER SHEETROCK. We will do joint compound knock down textures. If you request us specifically BE DETAILED in describing the repairs needed or I will not respond. REPAIR DRYWALL is not an adequate description. Drying alone can take 1 to 4 hours to dry to the touch per plaster layer, but some types of plaster take several hours longer to dry. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.

Plaster walls last 30 to 70 years, although expertly applied and well-maintained plaster can last for centuries. That’s why it’s important to leave plaster installation to a pro, treat cracks as needed, and have a pro inspect any concerning cracks as soon as possible. These efforts can greatly extend the life of your plaster walls for decades to come.

You can plaster over regular drywall, but it's essential to prepare the surface properly. Before plastering, the drywall should be clean, free of dust, and any loose or peeling paint should be removed. Applying a primer specifically designed for plastering can improve adhesion. Some professionals recommend applying a base coat of plaster or joint compound to create a better surface for the plaster to adhere to. Proper preparation ensures a smooth and durable plaster finish over regular drywall.

Only use spackle on plaster walls when the imperfection is small. It’s best used for nail holes or small dings in the plaster. Spackle dries quickly, allowing you to continue the repair process shortly after using it. Plaster can be tricky to repair, though, so if you run into issues, call a pro so that you don’t risk further damage.
