Some specialty units or smart units may require the assistance of a manufacturer-approved technician. Oven issues can be more challenging to diagnose than other appliances in the home because many of the parts are difficult to access for inspection or replacement. Some common oven repairs involve replacing damaged burners, heating coils, or electric cables. Purchasing additional parts, such as a new heating coil may also increase the total repair cost. 

Every home warranty is different but a majority of them cover appliance repair and replacement, provided the issue arises from normal wear and tear. Make sure you check your plan however as some will only cover new appliances which can be aggravating, as new appliances usually come with their own product warranty, whereas the warranty for an older appliance may have long since expired. Check with your home warranty company to see if an old appliance is covered before calling a professional appliance repair person.

In most cases, the repair is worth the value as it should help maintain the life of the appliance for a longer period, and the repair should be a lower cost than replacing the entire unit. For example, if the cost to repair your refrigerator will be more than 50% of the cost to buy a new one, and it’s 10 years old or more, then it may not be worth repairing.
