"Carl, the plumber, was prompt and extremely cordial. He took the time to explain what he was doing and how to avoid repeat problems. He also took the time to check out what we thought might have been another plumbing problem, and made suggestions of things to do to avoid the plumbing problems which can occur as a building ages.
He cleared the kitchen drain, ran enough water several times to makes sure that it was draining properly, and left the area clean and dry. As an aside, in chatting with him he explained some of the factors that go into the costs of plumbing and why the service charges can result in high "sticker shock". While that does not necessarily reduce the impact of plumbing cost, I very much appreciated that he took a few minutes to provide me with a perspective I had not considered.
As I have other plumbing work that will need to be done in the near future I will certainly give these guys first crack at the job. And with the discount provided by the Angie's list promotion I got away with a fraction of what I had feared the call would cost. In all, I am exceedingly happy with American Service Specialists.

"They are the best, they were professional and honest and quality work, we've been using them for over 20 years. We've never had to have them return to fix the same problem. When he was working on the pipe that had been leaking he even cleaned up the water after the repair."

"There were 2 guys from Mello plumbing in Dallas, Ga. that showed up at my house to replace the 2 bathtub drains and fix the leak under the sink in the master bath. They were friendly, fast, efficient, and very professional. I thought that the entire job would probably last about 1- 1 1/2 hours and probably cost about $200. These guys were so efficient, they were in and out in about 20-25 min. and the total cost was only $95. I will definitely use them again in the future, and will recommend them to anyone who asks. Great Job, Mello..."

"This is my 2nd great experience with Moncrief. My first was an A/C installation 20 yrs ago.  That unit needed replacement, so I verified with Angies List that Moncrief is still a highly rated company.  Their A rating encouraged me to proceed with an estimate.  The Engineer was right on time, in uniform, and very professional.  He computed my cooling needs and recommended a system.  He gave me a price that included everything, including haul away of my old unit and an Angies list discount.   I had a choice of installation dates beginning 2 days later.  The 2 man uniformed crew arrived right on schedule at 8:30am and had my new system up and running by 3 pm. There were several challenges they encountered, but they had a great positive attitude and got the installation done just the way I wanted it. They cleaned up completely when they were done.  The installers were very knowledgeable, professional and worked well together.  The Engineer stopped by a few days later to make sure everything was satisfactory.  I couldn't be more pleased with the entire experience.  I would not hesitate to recommend Moncrief to a friend or relative.   They may not always have the lowest price quote, but I think they are competitive. The peace of mind that everything is being done right is well worth doing business with these folks in my view."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

For disposal clogs with standing water, use a sink plunger and place it over the garbage disposal drain. Push the sink plunger up and down the drain about six to eight times before lifting. If the sink drains, the clogged food particles are dislodged from the drain. If there’s still standing water, repeat the steps until the standing water clears out.

If you try a drain snake and various DIY methods for unclogging drains to no avail, bring in a professional plumber to assess the situation. Also, if multiple drains in your home are backing up or you smell sewage, a visit from a plumber is best. You can expect your drain cleaning costs to fall around $250, and this can include an assessment of what’s caught in your plumbing and if there’s a larger, underlying problem. You should also consider calling a pro if you need to snake a toilet, as DIYing this could lead to a cracked fixture.

The cost to unclog a drain varies based on the location and severity of the clog. For simple clogs within your home, such as in a sink, toilet, or shower, hiring a plumber typically costs between $110 and $350, with an average of around $200. Snaking a toilet or sink usually costs between $110 and $275, while a bathtub or shower clog costs about $225.

For a more serious clog in the main sewer line, the cost is higher. Clearing a main line clog generally costs between $200 and $600, with an average of about $380. However, prices can range from as low as $100 for snaking a minor clog to over $1,600, particularly if advanced methods like video inspection and hydrojetting are needed for a large or hard-to-reach blockage. Some severe main line clogs can cost upwards of $1,000 to clear depending on factors like the cause of the clog, its distance from an accessible cleanout, and whether the pipe is located beneath an occupied space (e.g., in an apartment building). You may be able to save money on minor clogs by using a drain snake or bladder yourself.

Professional tools include drain snakes, hydro jets, cameras for line inspection, and enzymatic or chemical cleaners for dissolution.

You should flush your AC drain line once every three months to keep it clear of debris and buildup. Keeping your AC drain line clean prevents clogs, backups, mold growth, and extra wear on your AC unit. If you live in a humid area or have several furry pets, up your cleaning schedule to once a month.
