I am new to the area and starting over. I have done many forms of construction over the years. At the time, I was the youngest saw operator in Goer MFG and the fastest to make lead man in the mill department. I do finish work on Formica countertops and cabinets and refinish home furniture. I can do almost anything, so reach out and see if I am a fit for you.

I've been doing remodel residential work for 29 years now. I specialize in plumbing, painting, drywall, electrical and pretty much anything to do with residential homes! I'm not licensed just yet but I also don't charge all these extra charges such as giving estimates or hourly rates or on arrival rates, I know I don't have insurance or bonded so I keep my prices vert reasonable

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Installing a tongue-and-groove wall requires similar techniques to those associated with installing shiplap. However, because of the precision necessary to make each board fit perfectly and the increased material prices, the cost is higher than that of shiplap installations. Expect to spend between $2 and $6 more per square foot for tongue-and-groove walls versus shiplap ones.

You can use a nail to find ceiling joists, but it’s not as reliable as a stud finder, and you’ll end up with lots of small holes in your ceiling. If the nail hits a joist, you'll feel increased resistance. Mark the spot with a pencil. Repeat this process regularly along the ceiling, 16 or 24 inches apart, until you've mapped out the joist locations.

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.
